From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight.

“ This city has always stirred up my great anger. It has done it since the day it was built. Now I must remove it from my sight.

“ From the time this city was built until now, it has done nothing but anger me, so I am determined to get rid of it.

“ for this city has caused my wrath and fury from the day it was built until now. I will therefore remove it from my presence

“ Indeed this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My wrath since the day that they built it, even to this day, so that it should be removed from My sight,

“ for this city has caused My wrath and fury from the day it was built until now. I will therefore remove it from My presence,

This will happen because the people of this city have aroused my anger and my wrath since the time they built it until now. They have made me so angry that I am determined to remove it from my sight.

And the Lord said,“ I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.”

Surely this came upon Judah at the command of the Lord, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done,and also for the innocent blood that he had shed. For he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord would not pardon.

And he built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said,“ In Jerusalem will I put my name.”And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.And he burned his son as an offering and used fortune-telling and omens and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house of which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son,“ In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.

For it is a lie that they are prophesying to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish.

For thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Cut down her trees; cast up a siege mound against Jerusalem. This is the city that must be punished; there is nothing but oppression within her.As a well keeps its water fresh, so she keeps fresh her evil; violence and destruction are heard within her; sickness and wounds are ever before me.

Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides the sin that he made Judah to sin so that they did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord; and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?“ Go up through her vine rows and destroy, but make not a full end; strip away her branches, for they are not the Lord’s.For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord.

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem.And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods.

But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his evil; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:“ Behold, I will feed them with bitter food and give them poisoned water to drink, for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”

Moreover, the altar at Bethel, the high place erected by Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, that altar with the high place he pulled down and burned, reducing it to dust. He also burned the Asherah.

Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

“ And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then declare to her all her abominations.You shall say, Thus says the Lord God: A city that sheds blood in her midst, so that her time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself!You have become guilty by the blood that you have shed, and defiled by the idols that you have made, and you have brought your days near, the appointed time of your years has come. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mockery to all the countries.Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you; your name is defiled; you are full of tumult.“ Behold, the princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood.Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you.You have despised my holy things and profaned my Sabbaths.There are men in you who slander to shed blood, and people in you who eat on the mountains; they commit lewdness in your midst.In you men uncover their fathers’ nakedness; in you they violate women who are unclean in their menstrual impurity.One commits abomination with his neighbor’s wife; another lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law; another in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter.In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take interest and profit and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but me you have forgotten, declares the Lord God.“ Behold, I strike my hand at the dishonest gain that you have made, and at the blood that has been in your midst.Can your courage endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you through the countries, and I will consume your uncleanness out of you.And you shall be profaned by your own doing in the sight of the nations, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”And the word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are bronze and tin and iron and lead in the furnace; they are dross of silver.Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.As one gathers silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into a furnace, to blow the fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will put you in and melt you.I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it.As silver is melted in a furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the Lord; I have poured out my wrath upon you.”

Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read.Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.

Jerusalem sinned grievously; therefore she became filthy; all who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans and turns her face away.
