蓋耶利米曾曰、耶和華云、我將付此城於巴比倫王、使彼取之、猶大王西底家不能脫於迦勒底人手、必解至巴比倫王前、詰問研究、曳至巴比倫、居彼、待我耶和華眷顧之、爾曹雖戰巴比倫軍、必不獲利。西底家王聞之、怒其言不利、故下之於獄。

「耶和華－以色列的神說，你去告訴猶大王西底家，耶和華如此說：看哪，我要把這城交在巴比倫王的手中，他必用火焚燒。你必不能逃脫他的手，定被拿住，交在他手中。你要親眼看到巴比倫王，他要親口跟你說話，你也必到巴比倫去。

『耶和華－以色列的神如此說：看哪，我要使你們手中的兵器，就是你們與城外圍困你們的巴比倫王和迦勒底人打仗所用的兵器轉回來，把它們聚集在這城中。我要在怒氣、憤怒和大惱怒中，用伸出來的手和大能的膀臂，親自攻擊你們；又要擊打這城的居民，他們連人帶牲畜都必遭遇大瘟疫而死亡。以後，我要將猶大王西底家和他的臣僕百姓，就是在城內，從瘟疫、刀劍、饑荒中倖存的人，都交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒手中，交在仇敵和尋索其命的人手中。巴比倫王必用刀擊殺他們，不顧惜，不同情，不憐憫。這是耶和華說的。』

耶利米說完了耶和華吩咐他對眾百姓說的一切話，祭司、先知與眾百姓都來抓住他，說：「你該死！你為何假借耶和華的名預言，說這殿必如示羅，這城必荒廢無人居住呢？」於是眾百姓都聚集在耶和華的殿中圍住耶利米。

耶和華如此說：看哪，我必將這城交給迦勒底人的手和巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的手，他必攻取這城。攻城的迦勒底人必來放火焚燒這城和城裏的房屋；人曾在這房頂上向巴力燒香，向別神獻澆酒祭，惹我發怒。

這亞哈斯王在急難的時候，越發得罪耶和華。

「無論哪一邦、哪一國，不肯服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，不把頸項放在他的軛下，我必用刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫懲罰那邦，直到我藉巴比倫王的手毀滅他們。這是耶和華說的。

埃及王對他們說：「摩西、亞倫！你們為甚麼叫百姓不做工呢？去，服你們的勞役吧！」

我責打你們的兒女是徒然的，他們不受管教。你們自己的刀吞滅你們的先知，好像殘害人的獅子。

耶和華的話臨到耶利米先知，說：「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：你們要對派你們來求問我的猶大王如此說：『看哪，那出來幫助你們的法老軍隊必回埃及本國去。迦勒底人必再來攻打這城，並要攻下，用火焚燒。耶和華如此說：你們不要自欺說「迦勒底人必定離開我們」，因為他們必不離開。你們即使擊敗與你們爭戰的迦勒底全軍，他們當中剩下受傷的人也必各自從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」

問他說：「你告訴我們，你仗着甚麼權柄做這些事？給你這權柄的是誰呢？」

他們又煽動百姓、長老和文士，就突然來捉拿他，把他帶到議會去，設下假見證，說：「這個人不斷地說話，侮辱神聖的地方和律法。我們曾聽見他說，這拿撒勒人耶穌要毀壞這地方，也要改變摩西所交給我們的規矩。」

王說：「我今日若容許沙法的兒子以利沙的頭還留在他身上，願神重重懲罰我！」那時，以利沙正坐在家中，有長老與他同坐。王派一個人先去，使者還沒有到，以利沙對長老說：「你們看，這兇手之子派人來斬我的頭。你們注意，當使者來到，你們就關上門，把他關在門外。在他後頭不就是他主人的腳步聲嗎？」

耶和華啊，你的眼目不是在尋找誠實嗎？你擊打他們，他們卻不傷慟；你摧毀他們，他們仍不領受管教。他們使臉剛硬過於磐石，不肯回頭。

以伯‧米勒從王宮裏出來，對王說：

於是官長們對王說：「求你把這人處死，因他向城裏剩下的士兵和眾人說這樣的話，使他們的手發軟。這人不是為這百姓求平安，而是叫他們受災禍。」

卻不要在伯特利再說預言，因為這裏有王的聖所，有王的宮殿。」
