For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

在那裏猶大王西底家把耶利米關了起來，說：『你為甚麼傳神言說：「永恆主這麼說：看吧，我必將這城交在巴比倫王手中，使他攻取這城；

蓋猶大王西底家囚之、曰、爾奚預言曰、耶和華云、我必付此邑於巴比倫王手、彼必取之、

蓋耶利米曾曰、耶和華云、我將付此城於巴比倫王、使彼取之、猶大王西底家不能脫於迦勒底人手、必解至巴比倫王前、詰問研究、曳至巴比倫、居彼、待我耶和華眷顧之、爾曹雖戰巴比倫軍、必不獲利。西底家王聞之、怒其言不利、故下之於獄。

蓋耶利米曾述預言曰、主如是云、我將付此邑於巴比倫王手、使彼取之、猶大王西底家不能脫於迦勒底人手、必付於巴比倫王手、面審詰問、面審詰問原文作其口彼此對言其目彼此相視必將西底家擄至巴比倫、居彼待我眷顧之、爾曹雖與迦勒底人戰、必不獲勝、此乃主所言、猶大王西底家遂問耶利米曰、爾何為述若是之預言、於是囚之於獄、

Now Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him there, saying,“ Why do you prophesy as you do? You say,‘ This is what the Lord says: I am about to give this city into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.

Zedekiah, the king of Judah, had made Jeremiah a prisoner there. Zedekiah had said to him,“ Why do you prophesy as you do? You say,‘ The Lord says,“ I am about to hand over this city to the king of Babylon. He will capture it.

For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying,“ Why do you prophesy and say,‘ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it;

King Zedekiah had put him there, asking why he kept giving this prophecy:“ This is what the Lord says:‘ I am about to hand this city over to the king of Babylon, and he will take it.

Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying:“ Why are you prophesying,‘ This is what the Lord says: Look, I am about to hand this city over to Babylon’s king, and he will capture it.

For King Zedekiah had confined Jeremiah there after he had reproved him for prophesying as he did. He had asked Jeremiah,“ Why do you keep prophesying these things? Why do you keep saying that the LORD says,‘ I will hand this city over to the king of Babylon? I will let him capture it.

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying,“ Why do you prophesy, and say,‘ Yahweh says,“ Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that[ are] in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and[ against] the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded[ him] to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this[ is that] king Ahaz.

And it shall come to pass,[ that] the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained[ but] wounded men among them,[ yet] should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon[ him], and caught him, and brought[ him] to the council,And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and[ the king] sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door:[ is] not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?

O LORD,[ are] not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them,[ but] they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house, and spake to the king, saying,

Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it[ is] the king’s chapel, and it[ is] the king’s court.
