於是西底家王下令，把耶利米拘留在衛兵的院子裡；他們每天從餅鋪街拿一個餅給他，直到城裡的餅都吃光了。耶利米就這樣留在衛兵的院子裡。

烏賽的兒子巴拉修築對著城牆的轉角的地方，以及王宮突出高聳的城樓靠近護衛院的一段。下一段由巴錄的兒子毘大雅修築。

他們就拿住耶利米，把他丟在王子瑪基雅的井裡，那井是在衛兵的院子裡的；他們用繩子把耶利米縋下去。井裡沒有水，只有淤泥；耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

耶利米還監禁在衛兵院子裡的時候，耶和華的話第二次臨到他，說：

我叔叔的兒子哈拿篾果然照著耶和華的話，到衛兵的院子裡來見我，對我說：‘請你買下我在便雅憫境內亞拿突的那塊田地，因為你有那產業的繼承權，以及近親的權利和義務；請你把它買下吧。’於是我知道這是耶和華的話。

你們應該歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞賜是大的；在你們以前的先知，他們也曾這樣迫害。

耶利米吩咐巴錄說：“我被阻止，不能進耶和華的殿裡去。

因為猶大王西底家把他囚禁起來，說：“你為甚麼預言：‘耶和華這樣說：看哪！我必把這城交在巴比倫王的手中，他必攻取這城；

於是護衛長尼布撒拉旦、大臣（“大臣”的本意不明確）尼布沙斯班、術士長（“術士長”的本意不明確）尼甲．沙利薛，以及巴比倫王所有的大臣都派人去，把耶利米從衛兵的院子裡提出來，交給沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利，叫他帶耶利米回家去。這樣，耶利米就住在人民中間。耶利米還監禁在衛兵的院子裡的時候，耶和華的話臨到他，說：
