于是，西底迦王下令把耶利米囚在护卫兵的院子里，派人每天从饼铺取一个饼给他，直到城中绝粮。耶利米就这样住在护卫兵的院子里。

再接下来，乌赛的儿子巴拉修筑了城墙转角的对面和护卫院附近上宫凸出的城楼。再下一段由巴录的儿子毗大雅与住在俄斐勒的殿役修筑，他们修到东面的水门对面和凸出的城楼那里。

于是，他们拿住耶利米，用绳子把他缒到王子玛基雅的蓄水池里。那池子在护卫兵的院子里，池中没有水，只有淤泥。耶利米就陷在淤泥中。

耶利米被囚禁在护卫兵院子里的时候，耶和华第二次对他说：

果然如耶和华所言，我堂兄弟哈拿篾到护卫兵的院子里对我说：“我在便雅悯境内的亚拿突有一块田，求你买下它，因为你理当买下它。求你买下吧！”我知道这是耶和华的旨意。

要欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上有很大的奖赏。他们也曾这样迫害以前的先知。

耶利米对他说：“我被囚禁，不能进入耶和华的殿，

犹大王西底迦囚禁了他，责问他为什么预言说：“耶和华说，‘看啊，我要让巴比伦王攻占这座城。

于是，护卫长尼布撒拉旦、尼布沙斯班、尼甲·沙利薛等巴比伦王的所有将领，便派人把耶利米从护卫兵的院子提出来，让沙番的孙子、亚希甘的儿子基大利带他回家。从此，耶利米就生活在百姓当中。耶利米被监禁在护卫兵院子里的时候，耶和华对他说：
