When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations,“ The Lord has done great things for them.” (niv)

Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them. (niv)

They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the Lord— the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well- watered garden, and they will sorrow no more.Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord going before them. (niv)

They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown.How attractive and beautiful they will be! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women. (niv)

and I will cause many people to live on you— yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the Lord.I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; you will never again deprive them of their children.“‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because some say to you,“ You devour people and deprive your nation of its children,”therefore you will no longer devour people or make your nation childless, declares the Sovereign Lord.No longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall, declares the Sovereign Lord.’” (niv)

And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites.They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did also the musicians and gatekeepers, according to the commands of David and his son Solomon.For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the musicians and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God. The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. (niv)

Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’“ This is what the Lord says:‘ You say about this place,“ It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once morethe sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the Lord, saying,“ Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good; his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the Lord. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. (niv)

The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. (niv)

“ The days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will plant the kingdoms of Israel and Judah with the offspring of people and of animals. (niv)

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith— of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire— may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (niv)

For seven days they celebrated with joy the Festival of Unleavened Bread, because the Lord had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel. (niv)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! (niv)

and said to him:“ Run, tell that young man,‘ Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. (niv)

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests in their vestments and with trumpets, and the Levites( the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their places to praise the Lord, as prescribed by David king of Israel.With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the Lord:“ He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy.No one could distinguish the sound of the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people made so much noise. And the sound was heard far away. (niv)

The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (niv)

The whole company that had returned from exile built temporary shelters and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated it like this. And their joy was very great. (niv)

I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— (niv)

Sing, Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, Daughter Jerusalem!The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy.
