我見其所為、欲其歸誠、惟彼不從、其與猶大族、親若姊妹、猶大族效尤、屢欺侮予。

彼行此後、我命之曰、爾當歸誠於我、惟彼不從、悖逆之猶大與以色列有若姊妹、此事猶大亦見之、

I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.

I thought that after they had done all this, they would return to me. But they did not. Their sister nation Judah saw them doing this. And they were not faithful to me either.

And I thought,‘ After she has done all this she will return to me,’ but she did not return, and her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

Yet even after she had done all that, I thought that she might come back to me. But she did not. Her sister, unfaithful Judah, saw what she did.

Now your older sister is Samaria, who lives north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lives south of you, is Sodom with her daughters.

The couriers went throughout Israel and Judah with the letters from the hand of the king and his princes, even according to the command of the king, saying,“ Sons of Israel, return to the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that He may return to those of you who escaped and are left from the hand of the kings of Assyria.Do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were untrue to the Lord God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of horror, just as you see.Now do not stiffen your neck like your fathers, but yield to the Lord and enter His sanctuary which He has consecrated forever, and serve the Lord your God, that His burning anger may turn away from you.For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and your sons will find compassion in the presence of those who led them captive, and will return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him.”So the couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, and as far as Zebulun, but they laughed at them with scorn and mocked them.Nevertheless, some men of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.The hand of God was also on Judah to give them one heart to do what the king and the princes commanded by the word of the Lord.

Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying,“ Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments and My statutes in accordance with all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.”However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.

“ Come, let’s return to the Lord. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us.He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him.So let’s learn, let’s press on to know the Lord. His appearance is as sure as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, As the spring rain waters the earth.”What shall I do with you, Ephraim? What shall I do with you, Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning cloud, And like the dew which goes away early.

Return, Israel, to the Lord your God, For you have stumbled because of your wrongdoing.

And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a certificate of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and prostituted herself also.And because of the thoughtlessness of her prostitution, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.Yet in spite of all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in deception,” declares the Lord.And the Lord said to me,“ Faithless Israel has proved herself to be more righteous than treacherous Judah.

“ Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother;and they prostituted themselves in Egypt. They prostituted themselves in their youth; there their breasts were squeezed and there their virgin breasts were handled.Their names were Oholah the elder and Oholibah her sister. And they became Mine, and they gave birth to sons and daughters. And as for their names, Samaria is Oholah and Jerusalem is Oholibah.
