So why have you done nothing to stop Jeremiah from Anathoth, who pretends to be a prophet among you?

Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which maketh himself a prophet to you?

You should have reprimanded Jeremiah from Anathoth who is pretending to be a prophet among you!

As he talked with him, the king said to him,“ Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said,“ I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.”

But so that this spreads no further among the people, let’s threaten them, that from now on they don’t speak to anyone in this name.”They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.But Peter and John answered them,“ Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard.”When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done.

“ Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in Yahweh’s house, for every man who is crazy, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah,“ You speak falsely. Yahweh our God has not sent you to say,‘ You shall not go into Egypt to live there;’but Baruch the son of Neriah has turned you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death, and carry us away captive to Babylon.”

They assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them,“ You take too much on yourself, since all the congregation are holy, everyone of them, and Yahweh is among them! Why do you lift yourselves up above Yahweh’s assembly?”

Even as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind, who concerning the faith are rejected.

They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

saying,“ Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive:‘ After three days I will rise again.’

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.

saying,“ Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said,“ What are we doing? For this man does many signs.If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all,nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

Amaziah also said to Amos,“ You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:but don’t prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house!”
