“ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah,

“ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,‘ You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem. You also sent them to Zephaniah the priest. He is the son of Maaseiah. And you sent them to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah,

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: You wrote a letter on your own authority to Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, the priest, and you sent copies to the other priests and people in Jerusalem. You wrote to Zephaniah,

“ This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: You in your own name have sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,

“ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to the priest Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,

Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that[ are] at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

that the LORD God of Israel who rules over all has a message for him. Tell him,‘ On your own initiative you sent a letter to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah and to all the other priests and to all the people in Jerusalem. In your letter you said to Zephaniah,

“ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says,‘ Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

西底家王派示利米雅的兒子猶甲和瑪西雅的兒子西番雅祭司，去見耶利米先知，說：「求你為我們祈求耶和華－我們的上帝。」

西番雅祭司就把這信念給耶利米先知聽。

護衛長拿住西萊雅大祭司、西番亞副祭司和門口的三個守衛，

亞述王聽見有人談論古實王特哈加說：「看哪，他出來要與你爭戰。」於是亞述王又差使者去見希西家，說：

他們也在我面前說多比雅的好話，又把我的話傳給他。多比雅常寄信來，要叫我懼怕。

耶和華的話臨到耶利米。那時，西底家王差派瑪基雅的兒子巴施戶珥和瑪西雅的兒子西番雅祭司到他那裏去，說：「請你為我們求問耶和華，因為巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒前來攻擊我們；或者耶和華照他一切奇妙的作為待我們，使巴比倫王離開我們而去。」

而且，在那些日子，猶大的貴族屢次寄信給多比雅，多比雅也回信給他們。

西拿基立也寫信毀謗耶和華－以色列的上帝，說：「列邦的神明既不能救自己的百姓脫離我的手，希西家的上帝也不能救他的百姓脫離我的手。」

亞哈有七十個兒子在撒瑪利亞。耶戶寫信送到撒瑪利亞，給耶斯列的領袖和長老，以及教養亞哈眾兒子的人，說：「你們主人的眾兒子既然在你們那裏，你們又有戰車、馬匹、兵器、堅固城，現在你們接了這信，可以在你們主人的眾兒子中選一個賢能正直的，使他坐他父親的王位，你們也可以為你們主人的家作戰。」他們卻非常懼怕，說：「看哪，兩個王在他面前尚且站立不住，我們怎能站立得住呢？」王宮總管、市長和長老，並教養眾兒子的人，派人到耶戶那裏，說：「我們是你的僕人，凡你所吩咐的，我們都必遵行。我們不立誰作王，你看怎樣好就怎樣做吧。」耶戶寫第二封信給他們，說：「你們若歸順我，聽從我的話，明日這時候，要帶着你們主人眾兒子的首級，來到耶斯列我這裏。」那時王的兒子七十人都住在城中教養他們的那些尊貴人家裏。信一到他們那裏，他們就把王的七十個兒子殺了，將首級裝在筐裏，送到耶斯列，耶戶那裏。

護衛長拿住西萊雅大祭司、西番亞副祭司和門口的三個守衛，又從城中拿住一個管理士兵的官，並在城裏所找到王面前的五個親信，和召募當地百姓之將軍的書記官，以及在城中找到的六十個當地百姓。尼布撒拉旦護衛長把這些人帶到利比拉的巴比倫王那裏。巴比倫王擊殺他們，在哈馬地的利比拉把他們處死。這樣，猶大人就被擄去離開本地。

亞達薛西年間，比施蘭、米特利達、他別和他們的同僚上書奏告波斯王亞達薛西。奏文是用亞蘭文寫的，以亞蘭文呈上。利宏省長、伸帥書記也上奏亞達薛西王，控告耶路撒冷如下（那時，利宏省長、伸帥書記和他們其餘的同僚，法官、官員、軍官、波斯官員、亞基衛人、巴比倫人，和書珊迦人，就是以攔人，以及被亞斯那巴大人遷移、安置在撒瑪利亞城和大河西邊一帶地方其餘的人。現在，這是他們上奏亞達薛西王奏文的抄本）：「河西的臣僕上奏亞達薛西王，現在請王知道，從王那裏上到我們這裏的猶太人，已經抵達耶路撒冷。他們正在重建這反叛惡劣的城，已經完成了城牆，正要修復根基。如今請王知道，這城若再建造，城牆完工，他們就不再進貢、納糧、繳稅，王的國庫必受虧損。如今，我們吃的鹽既然全是宮廷的鹽，就不忍見王吃虧，因此奏告於王，請王考察先王史籍，必會在史籍上查知這城是反叛的城，對列王和各省有害；自古以來，城中常有悖逆的事，因此這城曾被拆毀。我們謹奏王知，這城若再建造，城牆完工，河西之地王就無份了。」

於是王后以亞哈的名義寫信，蓋上王的印，把信送給那些與拿伯同城居住的長老和貴族。她在信上寫着說：「你們當宣告禁食，叫拿伯坐在百姓的高位上，又叫兩個無賴坐在拿伯對面，作證告他說：『你詛咒了上帝和王。』然後把他拉出去用石頭打死。」那些與拿伯同城居住的長老和貴族，照耶洗別送給他們的信去做。正如她送的信上所寫，他們宣告禁食，叫拿伯坐在百姓的高位上。有兩個無賴來，坐在拿伯對面。無賴當着百姓作證告他說：「拿伯詛咒上帝和王了！」眾人就把他拉到城外，用石頭打他，他就死了。

要求發信給大馬士革的各會堂，若是找着信奉這道的人，無論男女，都准他捆綁帶到耶路撒冷。

希西家從使者手裏接過書信，讀完了，就上耶和華的殿，在耶和華面前展開書信。
