for this is what the Lord says concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who live in this city, your brothers who did not go with you into exile—

but this is what the Lord says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your fellow citizens who did not go with you into exile—

But here is what the Lord says about the king who now sits on David’s throne. He also says it about all the people who remain in this city. And he says it about all those who did not go with you to Babylon.

thus says the Lord concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile:

But this is what the Lord says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all those still living here in Jerusalem— your relatives who were not exiled to Babylon.

But this is what the LORD says concerning the king sitting on David’s throne and concerning all the people living in this city— that is, concerning your brothers who did not go with you into exile.

therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king who sits on the throne of David, concerning all the people who dwell in this city, and concerning your brethren who have not gone out with you into captivity—

thus saith Jehovah concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

But this is what the Lord says concerning the king sitting on David’s throne and concerning all the people living in this city— that is, concerning your brothers who did not go with you into exile.

[ Know] that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city,[ and] of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

But just listen to what the LORD has to say about the king who occupies David’s throne and all your fellow countrymen who are still living in this city of Jerusalem and were not carried off into exile with you.

Yahweh says concerning the king who sits on David’s throne, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who haven’t gone with you into captivity;

So Jeremiah said to Zedekiah,“ This is what the Lord God of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ If you will indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned with fire, and you and your household will survive.But if you do not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be handed over to the Chaldeans; and they will burn it with fire, and you yourself will not escape from their hands.’ ”Then King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah,“ I am in fear of the Jews who have deserted to the Chaldeans, for they may hand me over to them, and they will abuse me.”But Jeremiah said,“ They will not turn you over. Please obey the Lord in what I am saying to you, so that it may go well for you and you may live.But if you keep refusing to surrender, this is the word which the Lord has shown me:‘ Behold, all of the women who have been left in the palace of the king of Judah are going to be brought out to the officers of the king of Babylon; and those women will say,“ Your close friends Have misled and overpowered you; While your feet were sunk in the mire, They turned back.”They are also going to bring out all your wives and your sons to the Chaldeans, and you yourself will not escape from their hand, but will be seized by the hand of the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned with fire.’ ”

“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Anyone who stays in this city will die by the sword, by famine, or by plague; but anyone who surrenders to the Chaldeans will live and have his own life as plunder, and stay alive.’This is what the Lord says:‘ This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon and he will capture it.’ ”

One basket had very good figs, like first ripe figs, and the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten due to rottenness.

“ Son of man, prophesy and say,‘ This is what the Lord says:’ Say,‘ A sword, a sword sharpened And also polished!Sharpened to make a slaughter, Polished to flash like lightning!’ Or shall we rejoice, the rod of My son despising every tree?And it is given to be polished, so that it may be handled; the sword is sharpened and polished, to hand it over to the slaughterer.Cry out and wail, son of man; for it is against My people, it is against all the officials of Israel. They are turned over to the sword with My people, therefore slap your thigh.For there is a testing; and what if even the rod which despises will cease to be?” declares the Lord God.“ You therefore, son of man, prophesy and clap your hands; and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword for the slain. It is the sword for the great one slain, which surrounds them,so that their hearts will waver, and many fall at all their gates. I have granted the slaughter of the sword. Oh! It is made for striking like lightning, it is sharpened in readiness for slaughter.Prove yourself sharp, go to the right; set yourself; go to the left, wherever your edge is ordered.I will also clap My hands, and I will satisfy My wrath; I, the Lord, have spoken.”And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Now as for you, son of man, make two ways for the sword of the king of Babylon to come; both of them will go out of one land. And make a signpost; make it at the head of the way to the city.You shall mark a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and to Judah into fortified Jerusalem.For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination; he shakes the arrows, he consults the household idols, he looks at the liver.Into his right hand came the divination,‘ Jerusalem,’ to set up battering rams, to open the mouth for slaughter, to raise the voice with a battle cry, to set up battering rams against the gates, to pile up assault ramps, to build a siege wall.And it will be to them like a false divination in their eyes; they have sworn solemn oaths. But he makes guilt known, so that they may be seized.“ Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:‘ Because you have made your guilt known, in that your offenses are uncovered, so that in all your deeds your sins are seen— because you have come to mind, you will be seized by the hand.And you, slain, wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day has come, in the time of the punishment of the end,’this is what the Lord God says:‘ Remove the turban and take off the crown; this will no longer be the same. Exalt that which is low, and humble that which is high.Ruins, ruins, ruins, I will make it! This also will be no longer until He comes whose right it is, and I will give it to Him.’

The letter was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying,

“ Say now to the rebellious house,‘ Do you not know what these things mean?’ Say,‘ Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and leaders, and brought them to him in Babylon.Then he took one of the royal family and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. He also took away the mighty of the land,so that the kingdom would be humbled, not exalting itself, but keeping his covenant so that it might continue.But he revolted against him by sending his messengers to Egypt so that they might give him horses and many troops. Will he succeed? Will he who does these things escape? Can he indeed break the covenant and escape?As I live,’ declares the Lord God,‘ In the country of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, in Babylon he shall certainly die.Pharaoh with his mighty army and great contingent will not help him in the war, when they pile up assault ramps and build siege walls to eliminate many lives.Now he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and behold, he pledged his allegiance, yet did all these things; he shall not escape.’ ”Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ As I live, My oath which he despised and My covenant which he broke, I will certainly inflict on his head.And I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My net. Then I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there regarding the unfaithful act which he has committed against Me.All the choice men in all his troops will fall by the sword, and the survivors will be scattered to every wind; and you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken.”

Now the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying,“ Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.Present a parable to the rebellious house and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water into it;Put in it the pieces of meat, Every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; Fill it with choice bones.Take the choicest of the flock, And also stack wood under the pot. Make it boil vigorously. Also boil its bones in it.”‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ Woe to the bloody city, To the pot in which there is rust And whose rust has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece, Without making a choice.For her blood is in her midst; She placed it on the bare rock; She did not pour it on the ground To cover it with dust.So that it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood on the bare rock, So that it will not be covered.”Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the wood pile great.Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, Cook the meat thoroughly And mix in the spices, And let the bones be burned up.Then set it empty on its burning coals So that it may be hot And its bronze may glow, And its filthiness may be melted in it, Its rust eliminated.She has wearied Me with work, Yet her great rust has not gone from her; Let her rust be in the fire!In your filthiness is outrageous sin. Because I would have cleansed you, Yet you are not clean, You will not be cleansed from your filthiness again Until I have expended My wrath on you.I, the Lord, have spoken; it is coming and I will act. I will not overlook, I will not pity, and I will not be sorry; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,” declares the Lord God.’ ”

So I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; I have brought their way upon their heads,” declares the Lord God.

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against themand say,‘ Mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord God! This is what the Lord God says to the mountains, the hills, the ravines, and the valleys:“ Behold, I Myself am going to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.So your altars will become deserted and your incense altars will be smashed; and I will make your slain fall in front of your idols.I will also lay the dead bodies of the sons of Israel in front of their idols; and I will scatter your bones around your altars.Everywhere you live, cities will be in ruins and the high places will be deserted, so that your altars will be in ruins and deserted, your idols will be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars will be cut down, and your works wiped out.The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the Lord.“ However, I will leave a remnant, in that you will have those who escaped the sword among the nations when you are scattered among the countries.Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be taken captive, how I have been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which committed infidelity with their idols; and they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations.
