Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, the valleys, the desolate wastes, and the cities that have been forsaken, which became plunder and mockery to the rest of the nations all around—therefore thus says the Lord God:“ Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”’“ Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains, the hills, the rivers, and the valleys,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and My fury, because you have borne the shame of the nations.”Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame.But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are about to come.For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bear young; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.Yes, I will cause men to walk on you, My people Israel; they shall take possession of you, and you shall be their inheritance; no more shall you bereave them of children.”‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because they say to you,‘ You devour men and bereave your nation of children,’therefore you shall devour men no more, nor bereave your nation anymore,” says the Lord GOD.“ Nor will I let you hear the taunts of the nations anymore, nor bear the reproach of the peoples anymore, nor shall you cause your nation to stumble anymore,” says the Lord God.’”Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying:“ Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity.Therefore I poured out My fury on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it.So I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; I judged them according to their ways and their deeds.When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned My holy name— when they said of them,‘ These are the people of the Lord, and yet they have gone out of His land.’But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations wherever they went.“ Therefore say to the house of Israel,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy name’s sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord,” says the Lord GOD,“ when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God.I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. I will call for the grain and multiply it, and bring no famine upon you.And I will multiply the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of famine among the nations.Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight, for your iniquities and your abominations.Not for your sake do I do this,” says the Lord GOD,“ let it be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel!”‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will also enable you to dwell in the cities, and the ruins shall be rebuilt.The desolate land shall be tilled instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by.So they will say,‘ This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the wasted, desolate, and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’Then the nations which are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places and planted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it.”‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will also let the house of Israel inquire of Me to do this for them: I will increase their men like a flock.Like a flock offered as holy sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem on its feast days, so shall the ruined cities be filled with flocks of men. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’”

Bring back our captivity, O Lord, As the streams in the South.

For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.

Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ The children of Israel were oppressed, Along with the children of Judah; All who took them captive have held them fast; They have refused to let them go.Their Redeemer is strong; The Lord of hosts is His name. He will thoroughly plead their case, That He may give rest to the land, And disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

“ But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, And do not be dismayed, O Israel! For behold, I will save you from afar, And your offspring from the land of their captivity; Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease; No one shall make him afraid.Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,“ For I am with you; For I will make a complete end of all the nations To which I have driven you, But I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth, Among them the blind and the lame, The woman with child And the one who labors with child, together; A great throng shall return there.They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, In a straight way in which they shall not stumble; For I am a Father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.“ Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, And declare it in the isles afar off, and say,‘ He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And ransomed him from the hand of one stronger than he.Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, Streaming to the goodness of the Lord— For wheat and new wine and oil, For the young of the flock and the herd; Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, And they shall sorrow no more at all.“ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old, together; For I will turn their mourning to joy, Will comfort them, And make them rejoice rather than sorrow.I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the Lord.”

At that time I will bring you back, Even at the time I gather you; For I will give you fame and praise Among all the peoples of the earth, When I return your captives before your eyes,” Says the Lord.

And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first.I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.’“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Again there shall be heard in this place— of which you say,“ It is desolate, without man and without beast”— in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast,the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say:“ Praise the Lord of hosts, For the Lord is good, For His mercy endures forever”— and of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. For I will cause the captives of the land to return as at the first,’ says the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord of hosts:‘ In this place which is desolate, without man and without beast, and in all its cities, there shall again be a dwelling place of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the South, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks shall again pass under the hands of him who counts them,’ says the Lord.‘ Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord,‘ that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:‘ In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely. And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’“ For thus says the Lord:‘ David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;nor shall the priests, the Levites, lack a man to offer burnt offerings before Me, to kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’”And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season,then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’”Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,“ Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying,‘ The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off’? Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.“ Thus says the Lord:‘ If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth,then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’”

“ Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ that it shall no more be said,‘ The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’but,‘ The Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’ For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers.

But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord, Nor do they understand His counsel; For He will gather them like sheaves to the threshing floor.

Therefore say,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Although I have cast them far off among the Gentiles, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet I shall be a little sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.”’Therefore say,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ I will gather you from the peoples, assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”’And they will go there, and they will take away all its detestable things and all its abominations from there.Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds:“ Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock.The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled them.So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them.”‘ Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:“ as I live,” says the Lord GOD,“ surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock”—therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of the Lord!Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.”‘ For thus says the Lord GOD:“ Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land; I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys and in all the inhabited places of the country.I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down,” says the Lord GOD.“ I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment.”‘ And as for you, O My flock, thus says the Lord GOD:“ Behold, I shall judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats.Is it too little for you to have eaten up the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the residue of your pasture— and to have drunk of the clear waters, that you must foul the residue with your feet?And as for My flock, they eat what you have trampled with your feet, and they drink what you have fouled with your feet.”‘ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD to them:“ Behold, I Myself will judge between the fat and the lean sheep.Because you have pushed with side and shoulder, butted all the weak ones with your horns, and scattered them abroad,therefore I will save My flock, and they shall no longer be a prey; and I will judge between sheep and sheep.I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them— My servant David. He shall feed them and be their shepherd.And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I, the Lord, have spoken.“ I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in their land; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved them.And they shall no longer be a prey for the nations, nor shall beasts of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and no one shall make them afraid.I will raise up for them a garden of renown, and they shall no longer be consumed with hunger in the land, nor bear the shame of the Gentiles anymore.Thus they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they, the house of Israel, are My people,” says the Lord God.’“ You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord God.

But I will bring back Israel to his home, And he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan; His soul shall be satisfied on Mount Ephraim and Gilead.In those days and in that time,” says the Lord,“ The iniquity of Israel shall be sought, but there shall be none; And the sins of Judah, but they shall not be found; For I will pardon those whom I preserve.

“ For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?

that the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you.

I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them.

“ But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the Lord.“ Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.“ Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“ that they shall no longer say,‘ As the Lord lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’but,‘ As the Lord lives who brought up and led the descendants of the house of Israel from the north country and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ And they shall dwell in their own land.”

I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob,‘ Seek Me in vain’; I, the Lord, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

“ In those days and in that time,” says the Lord,“ The children of Israel shall come, They and the children of Judah together; With continual weeping they shall come, And seek the Lord their God.They shall ask the way to Zion, With their faces toward it, saying,‘ Come and let us join ourselves to the Lord In a perpetual covenant That will not be forgotten.’

Behold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger, in My fury, and in great wrath; I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.They shall be My people, and I will be their God;then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them.And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land, with all My heart and with all My soul.’“ For thus says the Lord:‘ Just as I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them.And fields will be bought in this land of which you say,“ It is desolate, without man or beast; it has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.”Men will buy fields for money, sign deeds and seal them, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captives to return,’ says the Lord.”

“ Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel:‘ Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those who are carried away captive from Judah, whom I have sent out of this place for their own good, into the land of the Chaldeans.For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.

‘ Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the Lord,‘ Nor be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar, And your seed from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, And no one shall make him afraid.

The Lord has revealed our righteousness. Come and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

“ As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;and whoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.Then they took an oath before the Lord with a loud voice, with shouting and trumpets and rams’ horns.And all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and sought Him with all their soul; and He was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around.

When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.

But Isaiah is very bold and says:“ I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”
