So you must submit to Babylon’s king and serve him; put your neck under Babylon’s yoke! I will punish any nation that refuses to be his slave, says the Lord. I will send war, famine, and disease upon that nation until Babylon has conquered it.

無論何國何族、不服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒、不以其項負巴比倫王之軛者、我必以鋒刃饑饉疫癘罰之、迨盡滅於其手、耶和華言之矣、

耶和華又曰、凡諸邦國、不肯服軛、事巴比倫王、尼布甲尼撒者、必以鋒刃、饑饉瘟疫罰之、翦滅務盡。

主又曰、若有民有國、不願服事巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒、不願項負巴比倫王之軛、我必以鋒刃饑饉疫癘罰其民、直至我藉巴比倫王之手、滅之務盡、

“‘“ If, however, any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon or bow its neck under his yoke, I will punish that nation with the sword, famine and plague, declares the Lord, until I destroy it by his hand.

“‘ “But suppose any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. And suppose it refuses to put its neck under his yoke. Then I will punish that nation with war, hunger and plague,” announces the Lord.“ I will punish it until his powerful hand destroys it.

“‘“ But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, declares the Lord, until I have consumed it by his hand.

“‘“ As for the nation or kingdom that does not serve King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and does not place its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish by sword, famine, and plague— this is the LORD’s declaration— until through him I have destroyed it.

‘ And it will be that the nation or the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with plague,’ declares the Lord,‘ until I have eliminated it by his hand.

And it shall be, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and which will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish,’ says the Lord,‘ with the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

And it shall come to pass, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith Jehovah, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

“ As for the nation or kingdom that does not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and does not place its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation I will punish by sword, famine, and plague”— this is the Lord’s declaration—“ until through him I have destroyed it.

And it shall come to pass,[ that] the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

But suppose a nation or a kingdom will not be subject to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Suppose it will not submit to the yoke of servitude to him. I, the LORD, affirm that I will punish that nation. I will use the king of Babylon to punish it with war, starvation, and disease until I have destroyed it.

“‘“‘ It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says Yahweh,‘ with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

“ So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: As surely as I live, I will punish him for breaking my covenant and disregarding the solemn oath he made in my name.I will throw my net over him and capture him in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon and put him on trial for this treason against me.And all his best warriors will be killed in battle, and those who survive will be scattered to the four winds. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken.

And I will send war, famine, and disease until they have vanished from the land of Israel, which I gave to them and their ancestors.”

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah,“ This is what the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:‘ If you surrender to the Babylonian officers, you and your family will live, and the city will not be burned down.But if you refuse to surrender, you will not escape! This city will be handed over to the Babylonians, and they will burn it to the ground.’”“ But I am afraid to surrender,” the king said,“ for the Babylonians may hand me over to the Judeans who have defected to them. And who knows what they will do to me!”

“ Now this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How terrible it will be when all four of these dreadful punishments fall upon Jerusalem— war, famine, wild animals, and disease— destroying all her people and animals.

Gedaliah vowed to them that the Babylonians meant them no harm.“ Don’t be afraid to serve them. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and all will go well for you,” he promised.

‘ Stay here in this land. If you do, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you. For I am sorry about all the punishment I have had to bring upon you.Do not fear the king of Babylon anymore,’ says the Lord.‘ For I am with you and will save you and rescue you from his power.I will be merciful to you by making him kind, so he will let you stay here in your land.’“ But if you refuse to obey the Lord your God, and if you say,‘ We will not stay here;instead, we will go to Egypt where we will be free from war, the call to arms, and hunger,’then hear the Lord’s message to the remnant of Judah. This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:‘ If you are determined to go to Egypt and live there,the very war and famine you fear will catch up to you, and you will die there.That is the fate awaiting every one of you who insists on going to live in Egypt. Yes, you will die from war, famine, and disease. None of you will escape the disaster I will bring upon you there.’“ This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:‘ Just as my anger and fury have been poured out on the people of Jerusalem, so they will be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. You will be an object of damnation, horror, cursing, and mockery. And you will never see your homeland again.’

These things happened because of the Lord’s anger against the people of Jerusalem and Judah, until he finally banished them from his presence and sent them into exile. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.So on January 15, during the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon led his entire army against Jerusalem. They surrounded the city and built siege ramps against its walls.Jerusalem was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah’s reign.By July 18 in the eleventh year of Zedekiah’s reign, the famine in the city had become very severe, and the last of the food was entirely gone.

And if they refuse to accept the cup, tell them,‘ The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: You have no choice but to drink from it.I have begun to punish Jerusalem, the city that bears my name. Now should I let you go unpunished? No, you will not escape disaster. I will call for war against all the nations of the earth. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!’
