However, before Jeremiah turned to go, Nebuzaradan added,“ Go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the towns of Judah, and live with him among the people, or go anywhere else you please.” Then the commander gave him provisions and a present and let him go.So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.When all the army officers and their men who were still in the open country heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam as governor over the land and had put him in charge of the men, women and children who were the poorest in the land and who had not been carried into exile to Babylon, (niv)

Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land— against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land.They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. They are ready now, waiting for your consent to their request.”The commander dismissed the young man with this warning:“ Don’t tell anyone that you have reported this to me.”Then he called two of his centurions and ordered them,“ Get ready a detachment of two hundred soldiers, seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go to Caesarea at nine tonight.Provide horses for Paul so that he may be taken safely to Governor Felix.”He wrote a letter as follows:Claudius Lysias, To His Excellency, Governor Felix: Greetings.This man was seized by the Jews and they were about to kill him, but I came with my troops and rescued him, for I had learned that he is a Roman citizen.I wanted to know why they were accusing him, so I brought him to their Sanhedrin.I found that the accusation had to do with questions about their law, but there was no charge against him that deserved death or imprisonment.When I was informed of a plot to be carried out against the man, I sent him to you at once. I also ordered his accusers to present to you their case against him.So the soldiers, carrying out their orders, took Paul with them during the night and brought him as far as Antipatris.The next day they let the cavalry go on with him, while they returned to the barracks.When the cavalry arrived in Caesarea, they delivered the letter to the governor and handed Paul over to him.The governor read the letter and asked what province he was from. Learning that he was from Cilicia,he said,“ I will hear your case when your accusers get here.” Then he ordered that Paul be kept under guard in Herod’s palace. (niv)

But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life and kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. (niv)

For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.“ Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria:“ He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. Lord, you understand; remember me and care for me. Avenge me on my persecutors. You are long- suffering— do not take me away; think of how I suffer reproach for your sake.When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, Lord God Almighty.I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? You are to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails.Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord.“ I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.” (niv)
