於是希羅底懷恨他，想要殺他，只是不能。

那殺人身體但不能滅人靈魂的，不要怕他們；惟有那能在地獄裏毀滅身體和靈魂的，才要怕他。

懼怕人的，陷入圈套；惟有倚靠耶和華的，必得安穩。

得着性命的，要喪失性命；為我喪失性命的，要得着性命。」

亞哈把以利亞一切所做的和他用刀殺眾先知的事都告訴耶洗別。耶洗別就派使者到以利亞那裏，說：「明日約這時候，我若不使你的性命像那些人的性命一樣，願神明重重懲罰我。」以利亞害怕，就起來逃命，到了猶大的別是巴，把僕人留在那裏。

我的性命常在我手掌中，我卻不忘記你的律法。
