凡是想救自己生命的，必喪掉生命；但為我犧牲生命的，必得著生命。人若賺得全世界，卻賠上自己的生命，有甚麼好處呢？人還能用甚麼換回自己的生命呢？

於是希羅底懷恨在心，想要殺他，只是不能。

那些殺身體卻不能殺靈魂的，不要怕他們；倒要怕那位能把靈魂和身體都投入地獄裡的。

懼怕人的，必陷入網羅；倚靠耶和華的，必得安全。

顧惜自己生命的，必要喪掉生命；但為我犧牲生命的，必要得著生命。

亞哈把以利亞所行的一切，和他用刀殺死眾先知的一切事，都告訴了耶洗別。耶洗別就差派一個使者去見以利亞說：“明天這個時候，如果我不使你的性命，像那些人一樣，願神明懲罰我，並且加倍懲罰我。”以利亞害怕，就起來，逃命去了。他到了猶大的別是巴，就把自己的僕人留在那裡。

我的性命常在危險中，我卻沒有忘記你的律法。
