behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these surrounding nations; and I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and hissing, and an everlasting place of ruins.

我必使我僕巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒、奉我遣率北方各族、來攻斯地與其居民、及四周之鄰國、必滅之殆盡、使其地永為荒涼、令人驚駭恥笑、此乃主所言、

I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,” declares the Lord,“ and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin.

So I will send for all the nations in the north. And I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon,’ announces the Lord.‘ I will bring all of them against this land and against you who live here. They will march out against all the nations that are around this land. I will set apart Judah and the nations around it in a special way to be destroyed. People will be shocked because of them. And they will make fun of them. Those nations will be destroyed forever.

behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.

I will gather together all the armies of the north under King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, whom I have appointed as my deputy. I will bring them all against this land and its people and against the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy you and make you an object of horror and contempt and a ruin forever.

I am going to send for all the families of the north’— this is the LORD’s declaration—‘ and send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land, against its residents, and against all these surrounding nations, and I will completely destroy them and make them an example of horror and scorn, and ruins forever.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ says the Lord,‘ and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

So I, the LORD, affirm that I will send for all the peoples of the north and my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and all the nations that surround it. I will utterly destroy this land, its inhabitants, and all the nations that surround it and make them everlasting ruins. I will make them objects of horror and hissing scorn.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,” says Yahweh,“ and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the Lord;“ and they will come and place, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the cities of Judah.

I have commanded My consecrated ones, I have also called for My warriors Who boast in My eminence, To execute My anger.

To make their land a desolation, An object of perpetual hissing; Everyone who passes by it will be astonished And shake his head.

and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ Behold, I am going to send men and get My servant Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and I am going to set his throne over these stones that I have hidden; and he will spread his canopy over them.

“ Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre; every head had a bald spot and every shoulder was rubbed raw. But he and his army acquired no wages from Tyre for the labor that he had performed against it.”Therefore this is what the Lord God says:“ Behold, I am going to give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. And he will carry off her wealth and capture her spoils and seize her plunder; and it will be wages for his army.I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor which he performed, because they acted for Me,” declares the Lord God.

then I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will expel from My sight. So Israel will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples.And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be appalled and hiss and say,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and this house?’

For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, That grim and impetuous people Who march throughout the earth, To take possession of dwelling places that are not theirs.They are terrifying and feared; Their justice and authority originate with themselves.Their horses are faster than leopards, And quicker than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen charge along, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour.All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward. They gather captives like sand.They make fun of kings, And dignitaries are an object of laughter to them. They laugh at every fortress, Then heap up dirt and capture it.

It is I who says of Cyrus,‘ He is My shepherd, And he will carry out all My desire.’ And he says of Jerusalem,‘ She will be built,’ And of the temple,‘ Your foundation will be laid.’ ”This is what the Lord says to Cyrus His anointed, Whom I have taken by the right hand, To subdue nations before him And to undo the weapons belt on the waist of kings; To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:

He will also lift up a flag to the distant nation, And whistle for it from the ends of the earth; And behold, it will come with speed swiftly.No one in it is tired or stumbles, No one slumbers or sleeps; Nor is the undergarment at his waist loosened, Nor his sandal strap broken.Its arrows are sharp and all its bows are bent; The hoofs of its horses seem like flint, and its chariot wheels like a storm wind.Its roaring is like a lioness, and it roars like young lions; It growls as it seizes the prey And carries it off with no one to save it.And it will roar against it on that day like the roaring of the sea. If one looks across to the land, behold, there is darkness and distress; Even the light is darkened by its clouds.

‘ And some of your sons who will come from you, whom you will father, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’ ”

and send word to the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the sons of Ammon, the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon by the messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.Order them to go to their masters, saying,‘ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ This is what you shall say to your masters:‘ I have made the earth, mankind, and the animals which are on the face of the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to the one who is pleasing in My sight.And now I have handed all these lands over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and I have also given him the animals of the field to serve him.All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson until the time of his own land comes; then many nations and great kings will make him their servant.‘ And it will be that the nation or the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with plague,’ declares the Lord,‘ until I have eliminated it by his hand.

This is what the Lord says:“ Behold, there is a people coming from the north land, And a great nation will be stirred up from the remote parts of the earth.They seize bow and spear; They are cruel and have no mercy; Their voice roars like the sea, And they ride on horses, Lined up as a man for the battle Against you, daughter of Zion!”We have heard the report of it; Our hands are limp. Anguish has seized us, Pain like that of a woman in childbirth.Do not go out into the field, And do not walk on the road; For the enemy has a sword, Terror is on every side.Daughter of my people, put on sackcloth And roll in ashes; Mourn as for an only son, A most bitter mourning. For suddenly the destroyer Will come against us.

“ Flee to safety, you sons of Benjamin, From the midst of Jerusalem! Blow a trumpet in Tekoa And raise a warning signal over Beth haccerem; For evil looks down from the north, Along with a great destruction.

Now the captain of the bodyguard had taken Jeremiah and said to him,“ The Lord your God promised this disaster against this place;

‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ I will also make the hordes of Egypt cease By the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.He and his people with him, The most ruthless of the nations, Will be brought in to destroy the land; And they will draw their swords against Egypt And fill the land with the slain.

Behold, I am bringing a nation against you from far away, you house of Israel,” declares the Lord.“ It is an enduring nation, It is an ancient nation, A nation whose language you do not know, Nor can you understand what they say.Their quiver is like an open grave, All of them are warriors.

From Dan there is heard the snorting of his horses; At the sound of the neighing of his stallions The whole land quakes; For they come and devour the land and its fullness, The city and its inhabitants.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hands is My indignation,

I will make them an object of terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a disgrace and a proverb, a taunt and a curse in all the places where I will scatter them.

“ So all these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the Lord your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you.And they will become a sign and a wonder against you and your descendants forever.“ Since you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a cheerful heart, in gratitude for the abundance of all things,you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, thirst, nakedness, and devoid of all things; and He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.“ The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down; a nation whose language you will not understand,a nation with a defiant attitude, who will have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young.

The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He pleases.

So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and gave it to all the nations to whom the Lord sent me, to drink from it:To Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and its kings and its officials, to make them places of ruins, objects of horror, hissing, and a curse, as it is this day;To Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, and all his people;and to all the foreign people, all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the Philistines( that is, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);To Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon;and to all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea;and to Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who trim the corners of their hair;and to all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the foreign people who live in the desert;and to all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;and to all the kings of the north, near and far, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the earth which are on the face of the ground; and the king of Sheshach shall drink it after them.

I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send a plague among you, so that you will be handed over to the enemy.When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied.‘ Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me,then I will act with wrathful hostility against you, and I for My part will punish you seven times for your sins.Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons, and you will eat the flesh of your daughters.I then will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and pile your remains on the remains of your idols, for My soul will loathe you.I will turn your cities into ruins as well and make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will not smell your soothing aromas.And I will make the land desolate so that your enemies who settle in it will be appalled at it.You, however, I will scatter among the nations, and I will draw out a sword after you, as your land becomes desolate and your cities become ruins.‘ Then the land will restore its Sabbaths all the days of the desolation, while you are in your enemies’ land; then the land will rest and restore its Sabbaths.All the days of its desolation it will have the rest which it did not have on your Sabbaths, while you were living on it.As for those among you who are left, I will also bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a scattered leaf will chase them, and even when no one is pursuing they will flee as though from the sword, and they will fall.They will then stumble over each other as if running from the sword, although no one is pursuing; and you will have no strength to stand before your enemies.Instead, you will perish among the nations, and your enemies’ land will consume you.So those of you who may be left will rot away because of their wrongdoing in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the wrongdoing of their forefathers they will rot away with them.‘ But if they confess their wrongdoing and the wrongdoing of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me—I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies— or if their uncircumcised heart is humbled so that they then make amends for their wrongdoing,then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land.For the land will be abandoned by them, and will restore its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them. They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their wrongdoing, because they rejected My ordinances and their soul loathed My statutes.Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so loathe them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God.But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, so that I might be their God. I am the Lord.’ ”These are the statutes and ordinances and laws which the Lord established between Himself and the sons of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.

For the Lord God says this:“ Behold, I am going to bring upon Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a great army.
