the foreigners living in Egypt; all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the land of the Philistines, the people of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, the people who had been left alive from Ashdod;

In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.

Cush and Libya, Lydia and all Arabia, Kub and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.

In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it—

A sword against her horses and chariots and all the foreigners in her ranks! They will become weaklings. A sword against her treasures! They will be plundered.

Rejoice and be glad, Daughter Edom, you who live in the land of Uz. But to you also the cup will be passed; you will be drunk and stripped naked.

This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:This is what the Lord says:“ See how the waters are rising in the north; they will become an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and everything in it, the towns and those who live in them. The people will cry out; all who dwell in the land will wailat the sound of the hooves of galloping steeds, at the noise of enemy chariots and the rumble of their wheels. Parents will not turn to help their children; their hands will hang limp.For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines and to remove all survivors who could help Tyre and Sidon. The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.Gaza will shave her head in mourning; Ashkelon will be silenced. You remnant on the plain, how long will you cut yourselves?“‘ Alas, sword of the Lord, how long till you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still.’But how can it rest when the Lord has commanded it, when he has ordered it to attack Ashkelon and the coast?”

Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.

Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted.Woe to you who live by the sea, you Kerethite people; the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says,“ I will destroy you, and none will be left.”The land by the sea will become pastures having wells for shepherds and pens for flocks.That land will belong to the remnant of the people of Judah; there they will find pasture. In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The Lord their God will care for them; he will restore their fortunes.

The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

Moreover, in those days I saw men of Judah who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon and Moab.Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod or the language of one of the other peoples, and did not know how to speak the language of Judah.I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath in God’s name and said:“ You are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, nor are you to take their daughters in marriage for your sons or for yourselves.Was it not because of marriages like these that Solomon king of Israel sinned? Among the many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel, but even he was led into sin by foreign women.Must we hear now that you too are doing all this terrible wickedness and are being unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women?”

These are the gold tumors the Philistines sent as a guilt offering to the Lord— one each for Ashdod, Gaza, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron.

The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

“ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:‘ Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah,therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will wipe out the Kerethites and destroy those remaining along the coast.I will carry out great vengeance on them and punish them in my wrath. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I take vengeance on them.’”

Ashkelon will see it and fear; Gaza will writhe in agony, and Ekron too, for her hope will wither. Gaza will lose her king and Ashkelon will be deserted.A mongrel people will occupy Ashdod, and I will put an end to the pride of the Philistines.I will take the blood from their mouths, the forbidden food from between their teeth. Those who are left will belong to our God and become a clan in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel( the father of Aram),

This is what the Lord says:“ For three sins of Gaza, even for four, I will not relent. Because she took captive whole communities and sold them to Edom,I will send fire on the walls of Gaza that will consume her fortresses.I will destroy the king of Ashdod and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon. I will turn my hand against Ekron, till the last of the Philistines are dead,” says the Sovereign Lord.
