Jeremiah, the Lord’ s prophet, spoke to all the people of Judah and Jerusalem. He said,

“ So speak to the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Tell them,‘ The Lord says,“ Look! I am making plans against you. I am going to bring trouble on you. So each one of you must turn from your evil ways. Change the way you live and act.” ’

Hear this, all you nations. Listen, all you who live in this world.Listen, people, whether you are ordinary or important. Listen, people, whether you are rich or poor.

Again Jesus called the crowd to him. He said,“ Listen to me, everyone. Understand this.Nothing outside of a person can make them‘ unclean’ by going into them. It is what comes out of them that makes them‘ unclean.’ ”

The Lord said to Jeremiah,“ Stand in the courtyard of my house. Speak to the people of the towns in Judah. Speak to all those who come to worship in my house. Tell them everything I command you. Do not leave out a single word.

Then Jeremiah returned from Topheth. That’s where the Lord had sent him to prophesy. Jeremiah stood in the courtyard of the Lord’ s temple. He spoke to all the people. He said,“ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,‘ Listen! I am going to punish this city and all the villages around it. I am going to bring against them all the trouble I have announced. That’s because my people were stubborn. They would not listen to what I said.’ ”

“ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,‘ Go. Speak to the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Tell them,“ Won’t you ever learn a lesson? Won’t you ever obey my words?” announces the Lord.

Shephatiah, Gedaliah, Jehukal and Pashhur heard what Jeremiah was telling all the people. Shephatiah was the son of Mattan. Gedaliah was the son of Pashhur. Jehukal was the son of Shelemiah. And Pashhur was the son of Malkijah. These four men heard Jeremiah say,“ The Lord says,‘ Those who stay in this city will die of war, hunger or plague. But those who go over to the side of the Babylonians will live. They will escape with their lives. They will remain alive.’
