他執政之第一年、我但以理就注意到經書上永恆主的話傳與神言人耶利米論到耶路撒冷荒廢的事必須足滿七十年。

『你要告訴國中的眾民和祭司說：你們這七十年在五月間和七月間禁食和舉哀，哪裏真是向我而禁食呢？

『七十年滿了以後，永恆主發神諭說，我必察罰巴比倫王以及那國，我必鑒察他們的罪孽，察罰迦勒底人之地，使它永遠荒涼。

因為永恆主這麼說：『全國都必荒涼；但我卻不盡行毁滅。

當那日子、推羅必被忘記七十年，像個王的年日一樣；七十年終了以後，推羅必像妓女之歌所唱的：『被忘記的妓女啊，拿琴游城吧！巧彈多唱，使人再想念你吧！』七十年終了以後，永恆主便眷顧推羅，推羅就仍得利，跟地上世界的萬國交易。

他們使地荒涼；地既荒涼，便發悲哀，使我憂愁；遍地荒涼，也無人介意。在野地裏一切無草木的高處上有毁滅者來到；因為永恆主的刀從地這邊到地那邊進行着吞滅之事呢；凡有血肉的沒有一個得平安。
