“ Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.

“用不义的手段建造自己房屋、用不公正的方法建筑自己楼房的，有祸了！他使自己的同胞白白作工，不把工资付给他们。

以非義建第、以不公築室、役人而不給值、其人禍矣、

人以非義之利、建造宅第、用人之力、不償其工者、禍必不遠、

行不義而建宮、行不公而造樓、徒用人力、不償工值者、斯人必禍、

The Lord says,“ How terrible it will be for King Jehoiakim! He builds his palace by mistreating his people. He builds its upstairs rooms with money gained by sinning. He makes his own people work for nothing. He does not pay them for what they do.

“ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice, who makes his neighbor serve him for nothing and does not give him his wages,

And the Lord says,“ What sorrow awaits Jehoiakim, who builds his palace with forced labor. He builds injustice into its walls, for he makes his neighbors work for nothing. He does not pay them for their labor.

Woe for the one who builds his palace through unrighteousness, his upstairs rooms through injustice, who makes his neighbor serve without pay and will not give him his wages,

“ Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness, And his upstairs rooms without justice, Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay And does not give him his wages,

“ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness And his chambers by injustice, Who uses his neighbor’s service without wages And gives him nothing for his work,

Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by injustice; that useth his neighbor’s service without wages, and giveth him not his hire;

Woe for the one who builds his palace through unrighteousness, his upper rooms through injustice, who makes his fellow man serve without pay and will not give him his wages,

Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong;[ that] useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;

“‘ Sure to be judged is the king who builds his palace using injustice and treats people unfairly while adding its upper rooms. He makes his countrymen work for him for nothing. He does not pay them for their labor.

“ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his rooms by injustice; who uses his neighbor’s service without wages, and doesn’t give him his hire;

“‘ Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.“‘ Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.

who build Zion with bloodshed, and Jerusalem with wickedness.

Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.

Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.

“ Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!You have plotted the ruin of many peoples, shaming your own house and forfeiting your life.The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it.

Lacking clothes, they go about naked; they carry the sheaves, but still go hungry.They crush olives among the terraces; they tread the winepresses, yet suffer thirst.

Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh Necho the silver and gold he demanded. In order to do so, he taxed the land and exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land according to their assessments.Jehoiakim was twenty- five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah; she was from Rumah.And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done.

“ So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty.

The king of Egypt made Eliakim, a brother of Jehoahaz, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But Necho took Eliakim’s brother Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.

Therefore this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:“ They will not mourn for him:‘ Alas, my brother! Alas, my sister!’ They will not mourn for him:‘ Alas, my master! Alas, his splendor!’
