Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.

Those who stay in this city will die of war, hunger or plague. But suppose some go out and give themselves up to the Babylonians attacking you. They will live. They will escape with their lives.

「耶和華如此說：留在這城裏的必遭刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫而死，但歸向迦勒底人的必得存活；至少能保全自己的性命，得以存活。

你為自己圖謀大事嗎？不要圖謀！看哪，我必使災禍臨到凡有血肉之軀的。但你無論往哪裏去，我要保全你的性命。這是耶和華說的。」

我定要搭救你，你必不致倒在刀下，卻要保全自己的性命，因你倚靠我。這是耶和華說的。」

耶利米對西底家說：「耶和華－萬軍之神、以色列的神如此說：你若歸順巴比倫王的官長，你的命就必存活，這城也不致被火焚燒，你和你的全家都必存活。你若不歸順巴比倫王的官長，這城必交在迦勒底人手中。他們必用火焚燒，你也不得脫離他們的手。」西底家王對耶利米說：「我怕那些投降迦勒底人的猶大人，恐怕迦勒底人把我交在他們手中，他們就戲弄我。」耶利米說：「迦勒底人必不把你交出。求你聽從我對你所說耶和華的話，這樣對你有好處，你的命也必存活。你若不肯歸順，耶和華指示我的話是這樣：看哪，猶大王宮裏所留下來的婦女必被帶到巴比倫王的官長那裏。這些婦女要說：你知己的朋友引誘你，他們勝過你；你的腳陷入淤泥，他們卻離棄你。「人必將你的后妃和你的兒女帶到迦勒底人那裏；你也不得脫離他們的手，必被巴比倫王的手捉住，這城也必被火焚燒。」

你和你的百姓何必因刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫而死亡，像耶和華所論不肯服事巴比倫王的國家呢？

他們禁食的時候，我不聽他們的呼求；他們獻燔祭和素祭，我也不悅納。我卻要用刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫滅絕他們。」

以後，我要將猶大王西底家和他的臣僕百姓，就是在城內，從瘟疫、刀劍、饑荒中倖存的人，都交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒手中，交在仇敵和尋索其命的人手中。巴比倫王必用刀擊殺他們，不顧惜，不同情，不憐憫。這是耶和華說的。』
