Why did I ever come out of the womb to see trouble and sorrow and to end my days in shame?

Why did I ever come out of my mother’s body? I’ve seen nothing but trouble and sorrow. My days will end in shame.

Why did I come out from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?

Why was I ever born? My entire life has been filled with trouble, sorrow, and shame.

Why did I come out of the womb to see only struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?

Why did I ever come out of the womb To look at trouble and sorrow, So that my days have been spent in shame?

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

Why did I ever come forth from my mother’s womb? All I experience is trouble and grief, and I spend my days in shame.

“ Why is light given to him who is in misery, And life to the bitter of soul,

“ Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble.

I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.

For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh.The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; My adversaries are all before You.

For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

“ Oh, that You would hide me in the grave, That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past, That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

I would comfort myself in sorrow; My heart is faint in me.

To the woman He said:“ I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”Then to Adam He said,“ Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying,‘ You shall not eat of it’:“ Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

“ Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see If there is any sorrow like my sorrow, Which has been brought on me, Which the Lord has inflicted In the day of His fierce anger.

So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.

“ Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, You people in whose heart is My law: Do not fear the reproach of men, Nor be afraid of their insults.

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

From the sole of the foot even to the head, There is no soundness in it, But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment.
