“ In vain I punished your people; they did not respond to correction. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a ravenous lion.

Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and garnish the tombs of the righteous,

And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk:and they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Jehovah.

but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard.And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully.And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some.He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard.

The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.Refuse silver shall men call them, because Jehovah hath rejected them.

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz.

And men were scorched with great heat: and they blasphemed the name of God who hath the power over these plagues; and they repented not to give him glory.
