To an image carved from a piece of wood they say,‘ You are my father.’ To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say,‘ You are my mother.’ They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me,‘ Come and save us!’

耶和华啊，他们在急难中寻求你；你的惩罚临到他们身上，他们就倾心吐胆祷告你。

“他们并不诚心哀求我，乃在床上呼号；他们为求五谷新酒聚集，仍然悖逆我。

他们以背向我，不以面向我；我虽从早起来教训他们，他们却不听从，不受教训，

从那年起，他们扰害欺压约旦河那边、住亚摩利人之基列地的以色列人，共有十八年。亚扪人又渡过约旦河去攻打犹大和便雅悯，并以法莲族。以色列人就甚觉窘迫。以色列人哀求耶和华说：“我们得罪了你；因为离弃了我们神，去侍奉诸巴力。”耶和华对以色列人说：“我岂没有救过你们脱离埃及人、亚摩利人、亚扪人，和非利士人吗？西顿人、亚玛力人、马云人也都欺压你们；你们哀求我，我也拯救你们脱离他们的手。你们竟离弃我，侍奉别神！所以我不再救你们了。你们去哀求所选择的神；你们遭遇急难的时候，让他救你们吧！”以色列人对耶和华说：“我们犯罪了，任凭你随意待我们吧！只求你今日拯救我们。”以色列人就除掉他们中间的外邦神，侍奉耶和华。耶和华因以色列人受的苦难，就心中担忧。

制造雕刻偶像的尽都虚空；他们所喜悦的都无益处；他们的见证无所看见，无所知晓，他们便觉羞愧。谁制造神像，铸造无益的偶像？看哪，他的同伴都必羞愧。工匠也不过是人，任他们聚会，任他们站立，都必惧怕，一同羞愧。铁匠把铁在火炭中烧热，用锤打铁器，用他有力的膀臂锤成；他饥饿而无力，不喝水而发倦。木匠拉线，用笔划出样子，用刨子刨成形状，用圆尺划了模样，仿照人的体态，做成人形，好住在房屋中。他砍伐香柏树，又取柞树和橡树，在树林中选定了一棵。他栽种松树，得雨长养。这树，人可用以烧火；他自己取些烤火，又烧着烤饼，而且做神像跪拜，做雕刻的偶像向它叩拜。他把一份烧在火中，把一份烤肉吃饱。自己烤火说：“啊哈，我暖和了，我见火了。”他用剩下的做了一神，就是雕刻的偶像。他向这偶像俯伏叩拜，祷告它说：“求你拯救我，因你是我的神。”他们不知道，也不思想；因为耶和华闭住他们的眼，不能看见，塞住他们的心，不能明白。谁心里也不醒悟，也没有知识，没有聪明，能说：“我曾拿一份在火中烧了，在炭火上烤过饼；我也烤过肉吃。这剩下的，我岂要作可憎的物吗？我岂可向木墩子叩拜呢？”他以灰为食，心中昏迷，使他偏邪，他不能自救，也不能说：“我右手中岂不是有虚谎吗？”

我必在仇敌面前分散他们，好像用东风吹散一样。遭难的日子，我必以背向他们，不以面向他们。”

他杀他们的时候，他们才求问他，回心转意，切切地寻求神。他们也追念神是他们的磐石，至高的神是他们的救赎主。他们却用口谄媚他，用舌向他说谎。因他们的心向他不正，在他的约上也不忠心。

他们的偶像是金的，银的，是人手所造的，有口却不能言，有眼却不能看，有耳却不能听，有鼻却不能闻，有手却不能摸，有脚却不能走，有喉咙也不能出声。造他的要和他一样；凡靠他的也要如此。

主耶和华如此说：“因你忘记我，将我丢在背后，所以你要担当你淫行和淫乱的报应。”

他又领我到耶和华殿的内院。谁知，在耶和华的殿门口、廊子和祭坛中间，约有二十五个人背向耶和华的殿，面向东方拜日头。

你这住黎巴嫩、在香柏树上搭窝的，有痛苦临到你，好像疼痛临到产难的妇人，那时你何等可怜！”

你是野驴，惯在旷野，欲心发动就吸风；起性的时候谁能使它转去呢？凡寻找它的必不致疲乏；在它的月份必能寻见。

他们尽都是畜类，是愚昧的。偶像的训诲算什么呢？偶像不过是木头。

那从囊中抓金子，用天平平银子的人，雇银匠制造神像，他们又俯伏，又叩拜。他们将神像抬起，扛在肩上，安置在定处，它就站立，不离本位；人呼求它，它不能答应，也不能救人脱离患难。“你们当想念这事，自己作大丈夫。悖逆的人哪，要心里思想。

“我要回到原处，等他们自觉有罪，寻求我面；他们在急难的时候必切切寻求我。”

雕刻的偶像，人将它刻出来，有什么益处呢？铸造的偶像就是虚谎的师傅。制造者倚靠这哑巴偶像有什么益处呢？对木偶说：“醒起！”对哑巴石像说：“起来！”那人有祸了！这个还能教训人吗？看哪，是包裹金银的，其中毫无气息。
