耶和華啊，他們在危難中尋求你；你的管教臨到他們，他們就低聲向你傾心吐意！

塑造偶像的全都虛空，他們所喜愛的毫無益處；為偶像本身作見證的，一無所見，一無所知，他們都必蒙羞。誰塑造了神像、鑄造了毫無益處的偶像呢？看哪！與他同夥的也必蒙羞，因為工匠自己也不過是人。讓他們聚集、站立吧！他們都必懼怕、蒙羞！鐵匠用工具在炭火上工作，用錘子打造偶像，用有力的膀臂工作；他也會因飢餓而無力，因不喝水而疲乏。木匠拉準繩，用筆畫出偶像的樣子，用鉋子鉋成形狀，用圓規畫出輪廓，把偶像做成人的樣式，像人那樣的美麗，好住在廟裡。他為自己砍伐香柏樹；他選取柏樹或橡樹，讓它在樹林中茁壯成長；他又栽種松樹，讓它靠雨水長大；這些樹可以給人作燃料。他拿一些來生火取暖，還用來燒火烤餅；他也用這些樹製作神像來下拜，製造雕像來膜拜。他用一半的木頭燒火，在其上做肉吃；他烤肉、吃飽，又自己取暖，說：「啊哈，我暖和了！我感到火熱了。」他用剩下的一半做了一個神像，就是他雕刻的偶像，然後向它俯伏下拜，又向它禱告，說：「求你救我，因為你是我的神。」這樣的人不明白，也不領悟，因為耶和華蒙蔽他們的眼使他們不能看見，蒙蔽他們的心使他們不能明悟。他們不反思，也沒有知識和聰慧來說：「我用一半的木頭燒火，又在火炭上烘餅，烤肉吃。我怎麼能用剩下的木頭製造可憎之物呢？我怎麼能向一塊木頭膜拜呢？」他們追求的只是灰燼；他們的心受了迷惑，使他們偏離正道；他們不能救自己，也不會說：「我右手中的，難道不是虛謊之物嗎？」

他殺他們的時候，他們才尋求他，回轉過來，切切尋求神。他們這才記起神是他們的磐石，至高神是他們的救贖主。但他們用口試探他，用舌對他說謊；他們的心對他不堅定，他們也不忠於他的約。

列國的偶像是銀的、金的，是人手所造的：它們有嘴卻不能說，有眼卻不能看；有耳卻不能聽，有鼻卻不能聞；有手卻不能摸，有腳卻不能走，也不能用喉嚨發出聲音。那些造它們的、所有依靠它們的，都會像它們那樣。

那些不惜從錢袋裡倒出金子，用天平稱出銀子的人，雇用金匠造出神像，然後俯伏下拜。他們把神像抬起，扛在肩上，又把它安置就位；它就在那裡呆立不動。儘管人向它呼求，它也不回應，更不能拯救人脫離患難。「你們這些叛逆的人哪，當記念這事，心志堅定，留心反思！
