爾之惡行、使爾受刑、爾之違逆、使爾受譴、爾可知可見爾棄主爾之天主、不敬畏我、必至遭難受苦、此乃主萬有之天主所言、

Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

You will be punished because you have sinned. You will be corrected for turning away from me. I am the Lord your God. If you desert me, bad things will happen to you. If you do not respect me, you will suffer bitterly. I want you to understand that,” announces the Lord who rules over all.

Your evil will chastise you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, declares the Lord God of hosts.

Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!

The look on their countenance witnesses against them, And they declare their sin as Sodom; They do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves.

The pride of Israel testifies to his face; Therefore Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; Judah also stumbles with them.

“ Your ways and your doings Have procured these things for you. This is your wickedness, Because it is bitter, Because it reaches to your heart.”

I will turn your feasts into mourning, And all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist, And baldness on every head; I will make it like mourning for an only son, And its end like a bitter day.

An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes.

Have you not brought this on yourself, In that you have forsaken the Lord your God When He led you in the way?

Therefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, A wolf of the deserts shall destroy them; A leopard will watch over their cities. Everyone who goes out from there shall be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many; Their backslidings have increased.

My people are bent on backsliding from Me. Though they call to the Most High, None at all exalt Him.

Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.

Thus says the Lord:“ Where is the certificate of your mother’s divorce, Whom I have put away? Or which of My creditors is it to whom I have sold you? For your iniquities you have sold yourselves, And for your transgressions your mother has been put away.

Do you not fear Me?’ says the Lord.‘ Will you not tremble at My presence, Who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea, By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it? And though its waves toss to and fro, Yet they cannot prevail; Though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.

O Israel, return to the Lord your God, For you have stumbled because of your iniquity;

And it happened, when Jehudi had read three or four columns, that the king cut it with the scribe’s knife and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.Yet they were not afraid, nor did they tear their garments, the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

“ There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

“ Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.”“ Indeed we do come to You, For You are the Lord our God.

“ For Israel is stubborn Like a stubborn calf; Now the Lord will let them forage Like a lamb in open country.

His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin.

“ But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.

His bones are full of his youthful vigor, But it will lie down with him in the dust.“ Though evil is sweet in his mouth, And he hides it under his tongue,Though he spares it and does not forsake it, But still keeps it in his mouth,Yet his food in his stomach turns sour; It becomes cobra venom within him.He swallows down riches And vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly.He will suck the poison of cobras; The viper’s tongue will slay him.

Why has this people slidden back, Jerusalem, in a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return.

Then the Lord said to me,“ Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say:‘ return, backsliding Israel,’ says the Lord;‘ I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,’ says the Lord;‘ I will not remain angry forever.Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the Lord your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,’ says the Lord.“ Return, O backsliding children,” says the Lord;“ for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

The Lord said also to me in the days of Josiah the king:“ Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot.And I said, after she had done all these things,‘ return to Me.’ But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.

And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.
