从埃及东面的西曷河，向北直到以革伦的境界（这都算是迦南人的地方），由五个非利士人的首领管辖的迦萨人、亚实突人、亚实基伦人、迦特人、以革伦人的地方；并且有亚卫人，

以法莲好像一只愚蠢无知的鸽子。他们向埃及求助，投奔亚述。

那些下埃及求帮助，倚靠马匹，倚靠众多战车，依靠十分强壮的马兵，却不仰望以色列的圣者，也不求问耶和华的，有祸了！

你为什么要东奔西跑，改变你的路向呢？你必因埃及蒙羞，像你从前因亚述受辱一样。

法老的军队已经从埃及出来；那些围困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见了他们的风声，就从耶路撒冷撤退了。那时，耶和华的话临到耶利米先知，“耶和华以色列的神这样说：你们要对差派你们来求问我的犹大王这样说：‘看哪！那出来帮助你们的法老的军队，必回到他们的埃及本地去。迦勒底人必回来，攻击这城，占领这城，放火烧毁这城。’耶和华这样说：你们不要自己欺骗自己，说：‘迦勒底人必定离开我们！’因为他们必不离开。即使你们击败了那攻打你们的迦勒底全军，他们中间只剩下一些受重伤的人，他们也必各从自己的帐棚里起来，放火烧毁这城。’”

以法莲看见自己的疾病，犹大家看见自己的创伤，以法莲就往亚述去，派人去见亚述的大王。可是他却不能医治你们，也不能医好你们的创伤。

亚述王提革拉．毗尼色来到他那里，不但没有援助他，反倒欺压他。亚哈斯取了耶和华殿里和王宫中，以及众领袖家里的财宝，给了亚述王，但也无济于事。

我们徒然等待帮助，等到双目失去视力；我们在瞭望台上期望一个不能拯救我们的国家来临。

可是这人背叛了巴比伦王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得战马和大军。他能亨通吗？行这样事的人，怎能逃脱呢？他破坏条约，怎能逃脱呢？

于是亚哈斯差派使者去见亚述王提革拉．毗列色，说：“我是你的臣仆，你的儿子，求你上来，救我脱离那起来攻击我的亚兰王和以色列王的手。”亚哈斯拿耶和华殿里和王宫宝库内找到的金子和银子，送给亚述王作礼物。于是亚述王答应了他。亚述王上去攻打大马士革，把城攻取，把居民掳到吉珥，又把利汛杀死了。

耶和华说：“这些悖逆的儿女有祸了！他们实行计谋，却不是出于我的意思，他们结盟，却不是出于我的灵，以致罪上加罪。他们起程下埃及去，并没有求问我，却要在法老的保护下，作避难处，投靠在埃及的荫庇下。因此，法老的保护必成为你们的羞耻，投靠在埃及的荫庇下，变成你们的耻辱。他们的领袖虽然已在琐安，他们的使臣虽然已到达哈内斯，但他们都必因那对于他们毫无利益的人民而蒙羞，那人民带来的不是帮助或益处，而是羞耻和凌辱。”以下是论南地野兽的默示：他们把财富驮在驴驹的背上，把宝物驮在骆驼的峰上，经过艰难困苦之地，就是公狮、母狮、蝮蛇和会飞的火蛇出没的地方，到一个对他们毫无益处的民族那里去。埃及的帮助是徒然的，是虚幻的，因此我称它为“坐而不动的拉哈伯”。
