“ For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.

我民作惡有二、我為活水之源、彼乃棄我、而自掘井、厥井破裂、不能蓄水、

我民作二大惡、我乃活水之源、彼反棄予、器易敗漏、不得盛水、彼反造作。

我民作惡二端、我乃活水之源、彼反棄我而自鑿井、其井滲漏、不能存水、

“ My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

“ My people have sinned twice. They have deserted me, even though I am the spring of water that gives life. And they have dug their own wells. But those wells are broken. They can’t hold any water.

for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

“ For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me— the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all!

For my people have committed a double evil: They have abandoned me, the fountain of living water, and dug cisterns for themselves— cracked cisterns that cannot hold water.

“ For My people have committed two evils: They have abandoned Me, The fountain of living waters, To carve out for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That do not hold water.

“ For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns— broken cisterns that can hold no water.

For My people have committed a double evil: They have abandoned Me, the fountain of living water, and dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that cannot hold water.

“ Do so because my people have committed a double wrong: they have rejected me, the fountain of life-giving water, and they have dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns which cannot even hold water.”

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

For with you is the spring of life. In your light we will see light.

He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,

Yahweh, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be disappointed. Those who depart from me will be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Yahweh, the spring of living waters.

He said to me,“ I have become the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life.

Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out,“ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

The Spirit and the bride say,“ Come!” He who hears, let him say,“ Come!” He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Has a nation changed its gods, which really are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doesn’t profit.

Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which doesn’t satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.

But my people didn’t listen to my voice. Israel desired none of me.So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.Oh that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!

“ For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

“ Haven’t you brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, when he led you by the way?

Generation, consider Yahweh’s word. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say,‘ We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?’“ Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number.

These are wells without water, clouds driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.

Everyone who makes a carved image is vain. The things that they delight in will not profit. Their own witnesses don’t see, nor know, that they may be disappointed.Who has fashioned a god, or molds an image that is profitable for nothing?Behold, all his fellows will be disappointed; and the workmen are mere men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together.The blacksmith takes an ax, works in the coals, fashions it with hammers, and works it with his strong arm. He is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is faint.The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. He marks it out with compasses, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a house.He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a cypress tree, and the rain nourishes it.Then it will be for a man to burn; and he takes some of it, and warms himself. Yes, he burns it, and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself, and says,“ Aha! I am warm. I have seen the fire.”The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says,“ Deliver me; for you are my god!”They don’t know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see; and their hearts, that they can’t understand.No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say,“ I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?”He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can’t deliver his soul, nor say,“ Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”

For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

Then I looked at all the works that my hands had worked, and at the labor that I had labored to do; and behold, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was no profit under the sun.

Some pour out gold from the bag, and weigh silver in the balance. They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god. They fall down— yes, they worship.They bear it on their shoulder. They carry it, and set it in its place, and it stands there. It cannot move from its place. Yes, one may cry to it, yet it can not answer. It cannot save him out of his trouble.

I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.

They cried to Yahweh, and said,‘ We have sinned, because we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.’

“ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher;“ Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?

Don’t put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help.His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.They have mouths, but they don’t speak. They have eyes, but they don’t see.They have ears, but they don’t hear. They have noses, but they don’t smell.They have hands, but they don’t feel. They have feet, but they don’t walk, neither do they speak through their throat.Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a chasing after wind.

You have rejected me,” says Yahweh.“ You have gone backward. Therefore I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you. I am weary of showing compassion.

Therefore my people go into captivity for lack of knowledge. Their honorable men are famished, and their multitudes are parched with thirst.

Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods. Therefore I will save you no more.

As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed: they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,

But lately my people have risen up as an enemy. You strip the robe and clothing from those who pass by without a care, returning from battle.

My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me!

Then I saw all the labor and achievement that is the envy of a man’s neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

“ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher.“ All is vanity!”

For among my people are found wicked men. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

Will the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Will the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?

The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master’s crib; but Israel doesn’t know. My people don’t consider.”

For he said,“ Surely, they are my people, children who will not deal falsely;” so he became their Savior.

For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, with knowledge, and with skillfulness; yet he shall leave it for his portion to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great evil.
