耶和華對摩西說：「你給我招聚七十個以色列人的長老——你所瞭解的首領，把他們帶到會幕，讓他們站在你身邊。

又像瓦器一樣被摔得粉碎，找不到一塊可以用來從火爐中取炭或從水池裡舀水的碎片。』」

「你去陶匠家，在那裡我有話告訴你。」我便到陶匠家，見他正用輪盤做器皿。每當他手中的器皿做壞了，他就用那塊泥重做，想怎麼做就怎麼做。

錫安的寶貝子民本來貴如黃金，現在竟被視為陶匠製作的瓦器！

我們不過是瓦器，裡面卻有這寶貝，要顯明這莫大的能力是上帝的，而不是我們自己的。

他派身披麻衣的宮廷總管以利亞敬、書記舍伯那和祭司中的長者去見亞摩斯的兒子以賽亞先知，

那時，祭司長和民間的長老正聚集在大祭司該亞法的府裡，

將男女老幼全部殺盡，但你們不能傷害額上有記號的。你們要從聖所開始。」於是他們首先殺了殿前的眾長老。

以利亞撒的子孫中做首領的比以他瑪的子孫中做首領的多，他們被分成班次，以利亞撒的子孫中有十六個族長，以他瑪的子孫中有八個族長。因為以利亞撒的子孫中和以他瑪的子孫中都有人在聖所做首領事奉上帝，他們便用抽籤的方法公平地分班，分別在以利亞撒和以他瑪家族中抽籤。利未人拿坦業的兒子示瑪雅是書記。他在君王、首領、撒督祭司、亞比亞他的兒子亞希米勒、眾祭司和利未人的族長面前把抽出的名字記錄下來。

到了清晨，所有的祭司長和民間的長老商定要處死耶穌。

祭司長、律法教師和長老也嘲諷說：「祂救了別人，卻救不了自己！祂要是以色列的王，就從十字架上跳下來吧！我們就信祂。

「耶利米啊，你要在同去的人面前打碎瓦瓶，然後告訴他們萬軍之耶和華說，『我要把這百姓和這城打得粉碎，正如人打碎瓦瓶一樣，再也不能修復。人們要在陀斐特埋死人，直到無處可埋。

「以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華吩咐你把封印的和沒有封印的兩份地契放在一個瓦瓶裡，長期保存。

第二天，官長、長老和律法教師都聚集在耶路撒冷，大祭司亞那，以及該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大和大祭司的許多親族都在場。
