Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy[ them].

And he said to David, Thou[ art] more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the LORD reward thee good for that thou hast done unto me this day.

The wicked have waited for me to destroy me:[ but] I will consider thy testimonies.

Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy[ it].And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do[ it] for forty’s sake.And he said[ unto him], Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do[ it], if I find thirty there.And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy[ it] for twenty’s sake.And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy[ it] for ten’s sake.

But[ this cometh to pass], that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou[ it] for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man[ that] turneth aside to tarry for a night?Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man[ that] cannot save? yet thou, O LORD,[ art] in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for[ their] good.

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee:[ is] not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear[ them] in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness,[ and] the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.Do not abhor[ us], for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.Are there[ any] among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers?[ art] not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these[ things].Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me,[ yet] my mind[ could] not[ be] toward this people: cast[ them] out of my sight, and let them go forth.

Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig[ a pit] for your friend.

He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch[ which] he made.

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow[ the thing that] good[ is].

Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.
