Then they said,“ Come and let’s devise plans against Jeremiah. Certainly the Law is not going to be lost by the priest, nor advice by the wise, nor the divine word by the prophet! Come, and let’s strike at him with our tongue, and let’s pay no attention to any of his words.”

彼曰、其來、爾我同謀以攻耶利米、因法律不絕於祭司、謀畧不絕於哲人、預言不絕於先知、來哉、我儕以舌攻之、勿聽其言、○

人曰、祭司有律例、智士有箴規、先知有預言、如耶利米其言不可信、予當批其頰、而謀害之。

彼眾曰、我儕不如設謀、坑害耶利米、攻之以詞、勿聽其所言、蓋祭司非失律法、智者非缺謀略、先知非無預言、

They said,“ Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophets. So come, let’s attack him with our tongues and pay no attention to anything he says.”

They said,“ Come on. Let’s make plans against Jeremiah. We’ll still have priests to teach us the law. We’ll always have wise people to give us advice. We’ll have prophets to bring us messages from the Lord. So come on. Let’s speak out against Jeremiah. We shouldn’t pay any attention to what he says.”

Then they said,“ Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.”

Then the people said,“ Come on, let’s plot a way to stop Jeremiah. We have plenty of priests and wise men and prophets. We don’t need him to teach the word and give us advice and prophecies. Let’s spread rumors about him and ignore what he says.”

Then certain ones said,“ Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah, for instruction will never be lost from the priest, or counsel from the wise, or a word from the prophet. Come, let’s denounce him and pay no attention to all his words.”

Then they said,“ Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.”

Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

Then some people said,“ Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”

Then they said,“ Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”

Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.

But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; And I did not know that they had devised plots against me, saying,“ Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, And let’s cut him off from the land of the living, So that his name will no longer be remembered.”

Though they intended evil against You And devised a plot, They will not succeed.

For the lips of a priest should maintain knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of armies.

Who have sharpened their tongues like a sword. They aimed bitter speech as their arrows,

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

My soul is among lions; I must lie among those who devour, Among sons of mankind whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue is a sharp sword.

Woe to those who devise wrongdoing, Who practice evil on their beds! When morning comes, they do it, Because it is in the power of their hands.They covet fields, so they seize them; And houses, so they take them. They exploit a man and his house, A person and his inheritance.Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am planning against this family a catastrophe From which you cannot remove your necks; And you will not walk haughtily, For it will be an evil time.

The priests did not say,‘ Where is the Lord?’ And those who handle the Law did not know Me; The rulers also revolted against Me, And the prophets prophesied by Baal And walked after things that were of no benefit.

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained to foil the good advice of Ahithophel, in order for the Lord to bring disaster on Absalom.

then say to them,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am going to fill all the inhabitants of this land— the kings who sit for David on his throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem— with drunkenness!Then I will smash them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together,” declares the Lord.“ I will not have compassion nor be troubled nor take pity so as to keep from destroying them.” ’ ”

He captures the wise by their own cleverness, And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.

So now, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Behold, I am forming a disaster against you and devising a plan against you. Now turn back, each of you from his evil way, and correct your ways and your deeds!” ’

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah approached and struck Micaiah on the cheek; and he said,“ How did the Spirit of the Lord pass from me to speak to you?”

As for a rogue, his weapons are evil; He devises wicked schemes To destroy the poor with slander, Even though the needy one speaks what is right.

Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah,“ You are telling a lie! The Lord our God has not sent you to say,‘ You are not to enter Egypt to reside there’;

Now someone informed David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said,“ Lord, please make the advice of Ahithophel foolish.”

and so as to teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them through Moses.”

Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility, and the deception of their own minds.Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them— yet they keep saying:‘ There will be no sword or famine in this land’— by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!And the people to whom they are prophesying will be thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no one to bury them— neither them, nor their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters. For I will pour out their own wickedness upon them.

They have lied about the Lord And said,“ Not He; Misfortune will not come upon us, Nor will we see sword or famine.The prophets are as wind, And the word is not in them. So it will be done to them!”

One of the lawyers* said to Him in reply,“ Teacher, when You say these things, You insult us too.”

“ This is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to the priest Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,“ The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to be the overseer of the house of the Lord for every insane person who prophesies, to put him in the stocks and in the iron collar.So now, why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth who prophesies to you,seeing that he has sent word to us in Babylon, saying,‘ The exile will be long; build houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their produce’ ?” ’ ”Now Zephaniah the priest read this letter to Jeremiah the prophet.

The Pharisees then replied to them,“ You have not been led astray too, have you?Not one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he?But this crowd that does not know the Law is accursed!”

Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”

But we will certainly carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, by burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as we ourselves, our forefathers, our kings, and our leaders did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and saw no misfortune.

Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the officials and to all the people, saying,“ A death sentence for this man! For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears!”
