The LORD is good– indeed, he is a fortress in time of distress, and he protects those who seek refuge in him.

Then I said,“ LORD, you give me strength and protect me. You are the one I can run to for safety when I am in trouble. Nations from all over the earth will come to you and say,‘ Our ancestors had nothing but false gods– worthless idols that could not help them at all.

I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain.Your anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me.

As for me, I will sing about your strength; I will praise your loyal love in the morning. For you are my refuge and my place of shelter when I face trouble.

For the calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his majesty I was powerless.

You are the one in whom Israel may find hope. All who leave you will suffer shame. Those who turn away from you will be consigned to the nether world. For they have rejected you, the LORD, the fountain of life.

In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.I said,“ I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me.”( Selah)You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak.I thought about the days of old, about ancient times.I said,“ During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully.” I tried to make sense of what was happening.I asked,“ Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor?Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever?Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?”

How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him.

My blessing is on those people who trust in me, who put their confidence in me.

For this reason, take up the full armor of God so that you may be able to stand your ground on the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.
