I have not run away from being your shepherd; you know I have not desired the day of despair. What passes my lips is open before you.

I haven’t run away from being the shepherd of your people. You know I haven’t wanted the day of Jerusalem’s fall to come. You are aware of every word that comes from my lips.

Lord, I have not abandoned my job as a shepherd for your people. I have not urged you to send disaster. You have heard everything I’ve said.

“ Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them a warning from Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will require his blood from your hand.But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have saved your life.

Do not become teachers in large numbers, my brothers, since you know that we who are teachers will incur a stricter judgment.

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away; and I went embittered in the rage of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong on me.Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the river Chebar at Tel abib, and I sat there for seven days where they were living, causing consternation among them.Now at the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me.When I say to the wicked,‘ You will certainly die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way so that he may live, that wicked person shall die for wrongdoing, but his blood I will require from your hand.However if you have warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die for wrongdoing, but you have saved yourself.

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”Then I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, Because I am a youth.”But the Lord said to me,“ Do not say,‘ I am a youth,’ Because everywhere I send you, you shall go, And all that I command you, you shall speak.Do not be afraid of them, For I am with you to save you,” declares the Lord.Then the Lord stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me,“ Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.See, I have appointed you this day over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to tear down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant.”

But if you do not listen to it, My soul will weep in secret for such pride; And my eyes will shed And stream down tears, Because the flock of the Lord has been taken captive.

I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying; my conscience testifies with me in the Holy Spirit,that I have great sorrow and unceasing grief in my heart.For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my countrymen, my kinsmen according to the flesh,

Oh, that my head were waters And my eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For those slain of the daughter of my people!

You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.

For we are not like the many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

Then Amos replied to Amaziah,“ I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs.But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me,‘ Go prophesy to My people Israel.’

You will say this word to them,‘ Let my eyes stream down tears night and day, And let them not cease; For the virgin daughter of my people has been crushed with a mighty blow, With a sorely infected wound.If I go out to the country, There are those killed by the sword! Or if I enter the city, There are diseases from famine! For both prophet and priest Have wandered around in the land that they do not know.’ ”Have You completely rejected Judah? Or have You loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that we are beyond healing? We waited for peace, but nothing good came; And for a time of healing, but behold, terror!We know our wickedness, Lord, The wrongdoing of our fathers, for we have sinned against You.Do not despise us, for the sake of Your own name; Do not disgrace the throne of Your glory. Remember and do not annul Your covenant with us.

Should good be repaid with evil? For they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You To speak good in their behalf, So as to turn Your wrath away from them.

For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.

how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was beneficial, and teaching you publicly and from house to house,

But if I say,“ I will not remember Him Nor speak anymore in His name,” Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; And I am tired of holding it in, And I cannot endure it.
