「你們是你們上帝耶和華的兒女，不可為死人割傷自己或剃光前額。

迦薩一片荒涼，亞實基倫淪為廢墟。谷中的餘民啊！你們要割傷身體到何時呢？

當天，從示劍、示羅和撒瑪利亞來了八十個人，他們剃了鬍鬚，撕裂衣服，割破身體，手裡拿著素祭和乳香要去耶和華的殿。

不可因哀悼死人而割傷身體或紋身。我是耶和華。

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。

地上的君王、顯貴、將領、富豪、有勢力的、一切奴隸和自由人都躲藏在山洞裡和岩穴間。

因此，論到猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬，耶和華說：「沒有人會為他哀悼說，『唉，我的弟兄啊！唉，我的姊妹啊！』沒有人會為他哀悼說，『唉，主人啊！唉，他的尊榮！』你必像死驢一樣被拖到耶路撒冷的城門外，曝屍荒野。」

他們都悲哀地剃去髮鬚，割傷雙手，腰束麻布。

我聽見祂對其餘的人說：「你們要跟隨他走遍全城，毫不留情地殺戮，將男女老幼全部殺盡，但你們不能傷害額上有記號的。你們要從聖所開始。」於是他們首先殺了殿前的眾長老。

你們要剪掉頭髮，在光禿的山上哀哭，因為耶和華已棄絕這惹祂發怒的百姓。』」

因此，耶和華要在一日之間剷除以色列的頭和尾。頭是指他們的長老和首領，尾是指教人虛謊之事的假先知。這些帶領者使百姓步入歧途、走向滅亡。他們目無上帝，行事邪惡，口出狂言。所以，主不喜歡他們的青年，也不憐憫他們的孤兒寡婦。雖然如此，耶和華的怒氣還沒有止息，祂降罰的手沒有收回。

『他們必死於惡疾，無人哀悼，無人埋葬，他們好像地上的糞便。他們必死於戰爭和饑荒，屍首必成為飛鳥和走獸的食物。』」

你就告訴他們，『耶和華說，我要使坐在大衛寶座上的君王以及祭司、先知、耶路撒冷人和這片土地上所有的居民都酩酊大醉；

看啊，耶和華一聲令下，大屋頓成瓦礫，小房化為碎片。

我又看見死去的人，不論尊卑老少，都站在寶座前面。案卷都展開了，另有一卷，就是生命冊也打開了。死去的人都要憑案卷中有關他們行為的記錄受審判。
