Can any of the worthless foreign gods send us rain? Does it fall from the sky by itself? No, you are the one, O Lord our God! Only you can do such things. So we will wait for you to help us.

Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

Then He will give you rain for your seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plentiful; on that day your livestock will graze in a wide pasture.

They do not say in their heart,“ Let us now fear the Lord our God, Who gives rain in its season, Both the autumn rain and the spring rain, Who keeps for us The appointed weeks of the harvest.”

He causes the mist to ascend from the ends of the earth, He makes lightning for the rain; He brings forth the wind from His treasuries.

They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,

For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ The bowl of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil become empty, until the day that the Lord provides rain on the face of the earth.’ ”

The Lord will open for you His good storehouse, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless every work of your hand; and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.

So shout for joy, you sons of Zion, And rejoice in the Lord your God; For He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has brought down for you the rain, The early and latter rain as before.

To bring rain on a land without people, On a desert without a person in it,To satisfy the waste and desolate land, And to make the seeds of grass to sprout?Does the rain have a father? Or who has fathered the drops of dew?

Let integrity and uprightness protect me, For I wait for You.

The Lord is good to those who await Him, To the person who seeks Him.It is good that he waits silently For the salvation of the Lord.

They are worthless, a work of mockery; At the time of their punishment they will perish.

Ask for rain from the Lord at the time of the spring rain— The Lord who makes the storm winds; And He will give them showers of rain, vegetation in the field to each person.For the household idols speak deception, And the diviners see an illusion And tell deceitful dreams; They comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep, They are wretched because there is no shepherd.

Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall certainly be neither dew nor rain during these years, except by my word.”

Lord, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say,“ Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, Futility, and things of no benefit.”

Behold, all of them are false; Their works are nothing, Their cast metal images are wind and emptiness.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And I wait for His word.

Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him.

Even if the fig tree does not blossom, And there is no fruit on the vines, If the yield of the olive fails, And the fields produce no food, Even if the flock disappears from the fold, And there are no cattle in the stalls,Yet I will triumph in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.The Lord God is my strength, And He has made my feet like deer’s feet, And has me walk on my high places. then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel; indeed, teach them the good way in which they are to walk. And provide rain on Your land, which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.

He works it with carving knives and outlines it with a compass, and makes it like the form of a man, like the beauty of mankind, so that it may sit in a house.He will cut cedars for himself, and he takes a holm oak or another oak and lets it grow strong for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a laurel tree, and the rain makes it grow.Then it becomes something for a person to burn, so he takes one of them and gets warm; he also makes a fire and bakes bread. He also makes a god and worships it; he makes it a carved image and bows down before it.Half of it he burns in the fire; over this half he eats meat, he roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says,“ Aha! I am warm, I have seen the fire.”Yet the rest of it he makes into a god, his carved image. He bows down before it and worships; he also prays to it and says,“ Save me, for you are my god.”They do not know, nor do they understand, for He has smeared over their eyes so that they cannot see, and their hearts so that they cannot comprehend.No one remembers, nor is there knowledge or understanding to say,“ I have burned half of it in the fire and also have baked bread over its coals. I roast meat and eat it. Then I make the rest of it into an abomination, I bow down before a block of wood!”He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has misled him. And he cannot save himself, nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

so that you may prove yourselves to be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

When all the people saw this, they fell on their faces; and they said,“ The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God!”Then Elijah said to them,“ Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape.” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slaughtered them there.Now Elijah said to Ahab,“ Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of the roar of a heavy shower.”So Ahab went up to eat and drink. But Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bent down to the earth and put his face between his knees.And he said to his servant,“ Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, but he said,“ There is nothing.” Yet Elijah said,“ Go back” seven times.And when he returned the seventh time, he said,“ Behold, a cloud as small as a person’s hand is coming up from the sea.” And Elijah said,“ Go up, say to Ahab,‘ Harness your chariot horses and go down, so that the heavy shower does not stop you.’ ”Meanwhile the sky became dark with clouds and wind came up, and there was a heavy shower. And Ahab rode and went to Jezreel.

Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed; Those who deal treacherously without cause will be ashamed.

But as for me, I will be on the watch for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.
