The other basket had very bad-looking figs in it, so bad they could not be eaten.The LORD said to me,“ What do you see, Jeremiah?” I answered,“ I see figs. The good ones look very good. But the bad ones look very bad, so bad that they cannot be eaten.”The LORD said to me,“ I, the LORD, the God of Israel, say:‘ The exiles whom I sent away from here to the land of Babylon are like those good figs. I consider them to be good.I will look after their welfare and will restore them to this land. There I will build them up and will not tear them down. Can wood be taken from it to make anything useful? Or can anyone make a peg from it to hang things on?No! It is thrown in the fire for fuel; when the fire has burned up both ends of it and it is charred in the middle, will it be useful for anything?Indeed! If it was not made into anything useful when it was whole, how much less can it be made into anything when the fire has burned it up and it is charred?

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood there before the angel.The angel spoke up to those standing all around,“ Remove his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua,“ I have freely forgiven your iniquity and will dress you in fine clothing.”

These wicked people refuse to obey what I have said. They follow the stubborn inclinations of their own hearts and pay allegiance to other gods by worshiping and serving them. So they will become just like these linen shorts which are good for nothing.
