For its maker trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt,Wonders in the land of Ham, And awesome things by the Red Sea.

Now on that day the glory of Jacob will fade, And the fatness of his flesh will become lean.

Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord not in our midst? Catastrophe will not come upon us.”

And He will say,‘ Where are their gods, The rock in which they took refuge?Those who ate the fat of their sacrifices, And drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you, Let them be your protection!
