If you say in your heart,“ Why have these things come on me?” Your skirts are uncovered because of the greatness of your iniquity, and your heels suffer violence.

你若心裏詰問說：「這一切事為甚麼臨到我呢？」你的裙子被揭起，你的屁股受蹧蹋，是因你的罪孽很多呀。

如爾意謂、我遭斯事曷故、乃因爾之罪愆重大、爾裙被揭、爾踵受傷、

如爾間何為遭難、則爾當知、罪惡眾多、故裸爾體、跣爾足。

如爾中心曰、此諸事臨我何故、則爾當知爾罪甚多、故爾裸體跣足、

And if you ask yourself,“ Why has this happened to me?”— it is because of your many sins that your skirts have been torn off and your body mistreated.

Suppose you ask yourself,“ Why has this happened to me?” It’s because you have committed so many sins. That’s the reason your skirt has been torn off. That’s why your body has been treated so badly.

And if you say in your heart,‘ Why have these things come upon me?’ it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up and you suffer violence.

You may ask yourself,“ Why is all this happening to me?” It is because of your many sins! That is why you have been stripped and raped by invading armies.

And when you ask yourself,“ Why have these things happened to me?” it is because of your great guilt that your skirts have been stripped off, your body exposed.

If you say in your heart,‘ Why have these things happened to me?’ Because of the magnitude of your wrongdoing Your skirts have been removed And your heels have suffered violence.

And if you say in your heart,“ Why have these things come upon me?” For the greatness of your iniquity Your skirts have been uncovered, Your heels made bare.

And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

And when you ask yourself,“ Why have these things happened to me?” It is because of your great guilt that your skirts have been stripped off, your body exposed.

And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered,[ and] thy heels made bare.

You will probably ask yourself,‘ Why have these things happened to me? Why have I been treated like a disgraced adulteress whose skirt has been torn off and her limbs exposed?’ It is because you have sinned so much.

“ Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies,“ and I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame.

It will happen, when you say,‘ Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?’ Then you shall say to them,‘ Just as you have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so you will serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’

Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and no one will deliver her out of my hand.

It will happen, when you tell this people all these words, and they ask you,‘ Why has Yahweh pronounced all this great evil against us?’ or‘ What is our iniquity? or‘ What is our sin that we have committed against Yahweh our God?’then you shall tell them,‘ Because your fathers have forsaken me,’ says Yahweh,‘ and have walked after other gods, have served them, have worshiped them, have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.

therefore the Lord brings sores on the crown of the head of the women of Zion, and Yahweh will make their scalps bald.”

Jerusalem has grievously sinned. Therefore she has become unclean. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness. Yes, she sighs, and turns backward.

If you shall say in your heart,“ These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?”

“ Haven’t you brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, when he led you by the way?Now what do you gain by going to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or why do you to go on the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?“ Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backsliding will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing, that you have forsaken Yahweh your God, and that my fear is not in you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.

therefore see, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those who you have loved, with all those who you have hated. I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy.I will also give you into their hand, and they will throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places. They will strip you of your clothes, and take your beautiful jewels. They will leave you naked and bare.

Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.“ They bend their tongue, as their bow, for falsehood. They have grown strong in the land, but not for truth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they don’t know me,” says Yahweh.“ Everyone beware of his neighbor, and don’t trust in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go around like a slanderer.Friends deceive each other, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves commiting iniquity.Your habitation is in the middle of deceit. Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says Yahweh.Therefore Yahweh of Armies says,“ Behold, I will melt them and test them; for how should I deal with the daughter of my people?Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart, he waits to ambush him.Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says Yahweh.“ Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on a nation such as this?

Therefore I will also uncover your skirts on your face, and your shame will appear.

The scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying,“ Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?”But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, answered them,“ Why are you reasoning so in your hearts?

so the king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, and with buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

Lest I strip her naked, and make her bare as in the day that she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and kill her with thirst.

It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart,“ Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”

You may say in your heart,“ How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?”

and lest you say in your heart,“ My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.”

“ Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart,‘ I am, and there is no one else besides me. I won’t sit as a widow, neither will I know the loss of children.’

Thus I will make your lewdness to cease from you, and remove your prostitution from the land of Egypt; so that you will not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt any more.’“ For the Lord Yahweh says:‘ Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of them whom you hate, into the hand of them from whom your soul is alienated.They will deal with you in hatred, and will take away all your labor, and will leave you naked and bare. The nakedness of your prostitution will be uncovered, both your lewdness and your prostitution.

Take the millstones and grind flour. Remove your veil, lift up your skirt, uncover your legs, and wade through the rivers.Your nakedness will be uncovered. Yes, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance, and will spare no one.”

Ephraim said,“ Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”
