For as a belt is bound around the waist, so I bound all the people of Israel and all the people of Judah to me,’ declares the Lord,‘ to be my people for my renown and praise and honor. But they have not listened.’

A belt is tied around a person’s waist. In the same way, I tied all the people of Israel to me. I also tied all the people of Judah to me like a belt. I wanted them to be my people. They should have brought me fame and praise and honor. But they have not listened to me,” announces the Lord.

For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the Lord, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says Yahweh;‘ that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

「耶和華在曠野之地，在空曠，野獸吼叫之荒地遇見他，就環繞他，看顧他，保護他，如同保護眼中的瞳人。鷹怎樣攪動巢窩，在雛鷹上面飛翔，展開雙翅接住雛鷹，背在兩翼之上，耶和華也照樣獨自引導他，並無外邦神明與他同在。耶和華使他馳騁在地的高處，他吃田間的出產；耶和華使他從巖石中吃蜜，從堅石中吸油，也吃牛的乳酪、羊的奶、羔羊的脂肪，巴珊所出的公綿羊和山羊，和上好的麥子。你要喝葡萄汁釀的美酒。「耶書崙漸漸肥胖，能踼跳。你長得肥胖，粗壯，豐潤。他離棄造他的上帝，輕看救他的磐石。

耶和華揀選雅各歸自己，揀選以色列作他寶貴的產業。

人稱他們為「聖民」，為「耶和華救贖的民」，你也必稱為「受眷顧的」，為「不被撇棄的城」。

哪一大國有神明與他們相近，像耶和華－我們的上帝在我們求告他的時候與我們相近呢？

那差我來的父也為我作了見證。你們從來沒有聽見他的聲音，也沒有看見他的形像。你們並沒有他的道存在心裏，因為你們不信他所差來的那一位。你們查考聖經，因你們以為其中有永生；而這經正是為我作見證的。然而，你們不肯到我這裏來得生命。

你們卻不聽我，不側耳而聽，竟硬着頸項行惡，比你們的祖先更甚。

你在埃及地顯神蹟奇事，直到今日在以色列和世人中間也是如此，建立了自己的名聲，正如今日一樣。

不過，你們是被揀選的一族，是君尊的祭司，是神聖的國度，是屬上帝的子民，要使你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。
