For as a belt is bound around the waist, so I bound all the people of Israel and all the people of Judah to me,’ declares the Lord,‘ to be my people for my renown and praise and honor. But they have not listened.’

A belt is tied around a person’s waist. In the same way, I tied all the people of Israel to me. I also tied all the people of Judah to me like a belt. I wanted them to be my people. They should have brought me fame and praise and honor. But they have not listened to me,” announces the Lord.

For as the loincloth clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, declares the Lord, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.

As a loincloth clings to a man’s waist, so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. They were to be my people, my pride, my glory— an honor to my name. But they would not listen to me.

Just as underwear clings to one’s waist, so I fastened the whole house of Israel and of Judah to me”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ so that they might be my people for my fame, praise, and glory, but they would not obey.

For as the undergarment clings to the waist of a man, so I made the entire household of Israel and the entire household of Judah cling to Me,’ declares the Lord,‘ so that they might be My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they did not listen.’

For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the Lord,‘ that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

For,’ I say,‘ just as shorts cling tightly to a person’s body, so I bound the whole nation of Israel and the whole nation of Judah tightly to me.’ I intended for them to be my special people and to bring me fame, honor, and praise. But they would not obey me.

For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says Yahweh;‘ that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

現在你們若是實在聽我的話，遵守我的約，你們就必在萬民中作屬我的產業，因為全地都是我的。你們要歸我作君尊的祭司和聖潔的國民。’這些話你都要對以色列人說。”

就是我為自己所造的子民，好使他們述說讚美我的話。

我的子民卻不聽我的話，以色列不肯服從我。

耶和華今日照著他應許你的，也承認了你是他珍貴的子民，使你謹守他的一切誡命；

我設立守望的人照管你們，說：‘你們要留心聽號角的聲音！’他們卻說：‘我們不聽！’

耶和華在曠野之地遇見了他，在荒涼之地和野獸吼叫的荒野，遇見了他，就環繞他，看顧他，保護他，好像保護自己眼中的瞳人一樣。又像老鷹攪動巢窩，飛翔在雛鷹之上，搧展翅膀，接取雛鷹，背在自己的兩翼之上。耶和華獨自領導了他，並沒有外族人的神與他同在。耶和華使他乘駕地的高處，得吃田間的土產；又使他從巖石中吸蜜，從堅固的磐石中取油。也吃牛酪和羊乳，羊羔的脂肪，巴珊的公牛和公山羊，以及上好的麥子；也喝了葡萄汁釀成的酒。但耶書崙肥胖了，就踢跳，‘你肥胖了，你粗壯了，你飽滿了，’他離棄了造他的神，輕看了救他的磐石。

因為耶和華揀選了雅各歸他自己，揀選了以色列作他自己的產業。

這邪惡的人民，不肯聽從我的話，他們隨著自己頑梗的心行事，隨從別的神，事奉敬拜他們；所以他們必像這根腰帶，毫無用處。

人必稱他們為聖潔的子民，為耶和華買贖回來的人；你也必稱為被愛慕的，不被遺棄的城。

哪一個大國的人有神與他們這樣親近，像耶和華我們的神，在我們每次呼求他的時候，與我們親近一樣呢？

差我來的父親自為我作了見證。他的聲音，你們從沒有聽過；他的容貌，你們從沒有見過；他的道，你們也不放在心裡，因為你們不信他所差來的那一位。你們研究聖經，因為你們認為聖經中有永生，其實為我作證的就是這聖經，然而你們卻不肯到我這裡來得生命。

你們（“你們”原文作“他們”）卻沒有聽從，毫不留心，反倒硬著頸項行惡，比你們（“你們”原文作“他們”）的列祖還厲害。

你曾在埃及地行神蹟奇事，你在以色列和全人類中間直到今日也是這樣，使你自己得了名聲，好像今日一樣。

然而你們是蒙揀選的族類，是君尊的祭司，是聖潔的國民，是屬神的子民，為要叫你們宣揚那召你們出黑暗入奇妙光明者的美德。

他從沒有這樣對待其他各國；他們都不知道他的典章。你們要讚美耶和華。
