It will be made a wasteland, parched and desolate before me; the whole land will be laid waste because there is no one who cares.

Do not have confidence in them, though they speak well of you.I have abandoned my house; I have deserted my inheritance. I have handed the love of my life over to her enemies.My inheritance has behaved toward me like a lion in the forest. She has roared against me. Therefore, I hate her.

It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, since that is the end of all mankind, and the living should take it to heart.

Listen! A noise— it is coming— a great commotion from the land to the north. The cities of Judah will be made desolate, a jackals’ den.

“ Ask all the people of the land and the priests: When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and in the seventh months for these seventy years, did you really fast for me?

The princess among the provinces has been put to forced labor.She weeps bitterly during the night, with tears on her cheeks. There is no one to offer her comfort, not one from all her lovers. All her friends have betrayed her; they have become her enemies.Judah has gone into exile following affliction and harsh slavery; she lives among the nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in narrow places.The roads to Zion mourn, for no one comes to the appointed festivals. All her gates are deserted; her priests groan, her young women grieve, and she herself is bitter.Her adversaries have become her masters; her enemies are at ease, for the LORD has made her suffer because of her many transgressions. Her children have gone away as captives before the adversary.

Be warned, Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you; I will make you a desolation, a land without inhabitants.

If you don’t listen, and if you don’t take it to heart to honor my name,” says the LORD of Armies,“ I will send a curse among you, and I will curse your blessings. In fact, I have already begun to curse them because you are not taking it to heart.
