耶和華歟、我與爾辯、爾乃公義、然我猶欲與爾論之、惡人之道、何故亨通、行詐之流、奚為安泰、

耶利米曰、耶和華與、吾訴於爾前、爾惟公是秉。即以爾行事論之、作惡者享通、逆理者平康、誠何故哉。

我若與主爭辯、主必顯為至公、雖然、我猶敢與主理論、惡人之道途亨通、奸詐之人平康、何故哉、

You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?

Lord, when I bring a matter to you, you always do what is right. But now I would like to speak with you about whether you are being fair. Why are sinful people successful? Why do those who can’t be trusted have an easy life?

Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?

Lord, you always give me justice when I bring a case before you. So let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?

Righteous are You, Lord, when I plead my case with You; Nevertheless I would discuss matters of justice with You: Why has the way of the wicked prospered? Why are all those who deal in treachery at ease?

Righteous are You, O Lord, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?

Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?

You will be righteous, Lord, even if I bring a case against You. Yet, I wish to contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the treacherous live at ease?

Righteous[ art] thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of[ thy] judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper?[ wherefore] are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

LORD, you have always been fair whenever I have complained to you. However, I would like to speak with you about the disposition of justice. Why are wicked people successful? Why do all dishonest people have such easy lives?

You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?

So now we consider the arrogant to be fortunate. Not only do those who commit wickedness prosper, they even test God and escape.”

Do not be agitated by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.

though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be eternally destroyed.

The tents of robbers are safe, and those who trouble God are secure; God holds them in his hands.

Against you— you alone— I have sinned and done this evil in your sight. So you are right when you pass sentence; you are blameless when you judge.

I have seen a wicked, violent person well-rooted, like a flourishing native tree.

This is why the law is ineffective and justice never emerges. For the wicked restrict the righteous; therefore, justice comes out perverted.

But, LORD of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for I have presented my case to you.

The righteous LORD is in her; he does no wrong. He applies his justice morning by morning; he does not fail at dawn, yet the one who does wrong knows no shame.

Your eyes are too pure to look on evil, and you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. So why do you tolerate those who are treacherous? Why are you silent while one who is wicked swallows up one who is more righteous than himself?You have made mankind like the fish of the sea, like marine creatures that have no ruler.The Chaldeans pull them all up with a hook, catch them in their dragnet, and gather them in their fishing net; that is why they are glad and rejoice.That is why they sacrifice to their dragnet and burn incense to their fishing net, for by these things their portion is rich and their food plentiful.Will they therefore empty their net and continually slaughter nations without mercy?

Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel— those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where you have banished them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward you.

They, the house of Israel and the house of Judah, have dealt very treacherously with me. This is the LORD’s declaration.

Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have grown powerful and rich.They have become fat and sleek. They have also excelled in evil matters. They have not taken up cases, such as the case of the fatherless, so they might prosper, and they have not defended the rights of the needy.

LORD, how long will the wicked— how long will the wicked celebrate?They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.

For I envied the arrogant; I saw the prosperity of the wicked.They have an easy time until they die, and their bodies are well fed.They are not in trouble like others; they are not afflicted like most people.Therefore, pride is their necklace, and violence covers them like a garment.Their eyes bulge out from fatness; the imaginations of their hearts run wild.They mock, and they speak maliciously; they arrogantly threaten oppression.They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues strut across the earth.Therefore his people turn to them and drink in their overflowing words.The wicked say,“ How can God know? Does the Most High know everything?”Look at them— the wicked! They are always at ease, and they increase their wealth.Did I purify my heart and wash my hands in innocence for nothing?For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning.If I had decided to say these things aloud, I would have betrayed your people.When I tried to understand all this, it seemed hopelessuntil I entered God’s sanctuary. Then I understood their destiny.Indeed, you put them in slippery places; you make them fall into ruin.How suddenly they become a desolation! They come to an end, swept away by terrors.Like one waking from a dream, Lord, when arising, you will despise their image.When I became embittered and my innermost being was wounded,I was stupid and didn’t understand; I was an unthinking animal toward you.Yet I am always with you; you hold my right hand.You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me up in glory.Who do I have in heaven but you? And I desire nothing on earth but you.My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.Those far from you will certainly perish; you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.But as for me, God’s presence is my good. I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, so I can tell about all you do.

LORD God of Israel, you are righteous, for we survive as a remnant today. Here we are before you with our guilt, though no one can stand in your presence because of this.

Why do the wicked continue to live, growing old and becoming powerful?Their children are established while they are still alive, and their descendants, before their eyes.Their homes are secure and free of fear; no rod from God strikes them.Their bulls breed without fail; their cows calve and do not miscarry.They let their little ones run around like lambs; their children skip about,singing to the tambourine and lyre and rejoicing at the sound of the flute.They spend their days in prosperity and go down to Sheol in peace.Yet they say to God,“ Leave us alone! We don’t want to know your ways.Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him, and what will we gain by pleading with him?”

Yet I prefer to speak to the Almighty and argue my case before God.

You are righteous, LORD, and your judgments are just.

You have never heard; you have never known; for a long time your ears have not been open. For I knew that you were very treacherous, and were known as a rebel from birth.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all his acts.

But they, like Adam, have violated the covenant; there they have betrayed me.

“ Submit your case,” says the LORD.“ Present your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.

But if our unrighteousness highlights God’s righteousness, what are we to say? I am using a human argument: Is God unrighteous to inflict wrath?Absolutely not! Otherwise, how will God judge the world?

You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just?”

The Rock— his work is perfect; all his ways are just. A faithful God, without bias, he is righteous and true.

Even your brothers— your own father’s family— even they were treacherous to you; even they have cried out loudly after you. Do not have confidence in them, though they speak well of you.

I know, LORD, that your judgments are just and that you have afflicted me fairly.

For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
