Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the people of Anathoth, who are seeking your life, saying:“ Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, so that you do not die by our hand”;

Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying,“ Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”—

The Lord says,“ Jeremiah, here is what I am telling you about the people of Anathoth. They say they’re going to kill you. They are saying,‘ Don’t prophesy in the Lord’ s name. If you do, we will kill you with our own hands.’ ”

Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, and say,“ Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, or you will die by our hand”—

This is what the Lord says about the men of Anathoth who wanted me dead. They had said,“ We will kill you if you do not stop prophesying in the Lord’s name.”

Therefore, here is what the LORD says concerning the people of Anathoth who intend to take your life. They warn,“ Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will certainly die at our hand.”

“ Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the men of Anathoth who seek your life, saying,‘ Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord, lest you die by our hand’—

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, that thou die not by our hand;

Therefore, here is what the Lord says concerning the people of Anathoth who want to take your life. They warn,“ You must not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, or you will certainly die at our hand.”

Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:

Then the LORD told me about some men from Anathoth who were threatening to kill me. They had threatened,“ Stop prophesying in the name of the LORD or we will kill you!”

“ Therefore Yahweh says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying,‘ You shall not prophesy in Yahweh’s name, that you not die by our hand;’

Nevertheless I must go on My journey today and tomorrow and the next day; for it cannot be that a prophet would perish outside Jerusalem.Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her young under her wings, and you were unwilling!

For I have heard the whispering of many,“ Terror on every side! Denounce him; let’s denounce him!” All my trusted friends, Watching for my fall, say:“ Perhaps he will be persuaded, so that we may prevail against him And take our revenge on him.”

Who say to the seers,“ You must not see visions”; And to the prophets,“ You must not prophesy the truth to us. Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.

“ If you have run with infantrymen and they have tired you out, How can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, How will you do in the thicket by the Jordan?For even your brothers and the household of your father, Even they have dealt treacherously with you, Even they have called aloud after you. Do not believe them, though they say nice things to you.”

“ But you made the Nazirites drink wine, And you commanded the prophets, saying,‘ You shall not prophesy!’

and the rest seized his slaves and treated them abusively, and then killed them.

Yet when Jeremiah finished speaking everything that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying,“ You must die!

And the vine growers took his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

But He said,“ Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown.

“ You men who are stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him;

Now Shephatiah the son of Mattan, Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah heard the words that Jeremiah was speaking to all the people, saying,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Anyone who stays in this city will die by the sword, by famine, or by plague; but anyone who surrenders to the Chaldeans will live and have his own life as plunder, and stay alive.’This is what the Lord says:‘ This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon and he will capture it.’ ”Then the officials said to the king,“ Please have this man put to death, since he is discouraging the men of war who are left in this city and all the people, by speaking words like these to them; for this man is not seeking the well being of this people, but rather their harm.”And King Zedekiah said,“ Behold, he is in your hands; for the king can do nothing against you.”So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchijah the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud.

“ Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer, who was chief overseer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things,Pashhur had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put him in the stocks that were at the upper Benjamin Gate, which was by the house of the Lord.

For son disavows father, Daughter rises up against her mother, Daughter in law against her mother in law; A person’s enemies are the people of his own household.

“ Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

“ Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.For I came to turn a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter in law against her mother in law;and a person’s enemies will be the members of his household.

But do not prophesy at Bethel any longer, for it is a sanctuary of the king and a royal residence.”Then Amos replied to Amaziah,“ I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs.But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me,‘ Go prophesy to My people Israel.’So now hear the word of the Lord: you are saying,‘ You shall not prophesy against Israel nor shall you prophesy against the house of Isaac.’

‘ Do not prophesy,’ so they prophesy. But if they do not prophesy about these things, Insults will not be turned back.Is it being said, house of Jacob:‘ Is the Spirit of the Lord impatient? From her children you take My splendor forever.Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction.If someone walking after wind and falsehood Had lied and said,‘ I will prophesy to you about wine and liquor,’ He would become a prophet to this people.
