“ Listen to the terms of this covenant and tell them to the people of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem.

耶和华对我说：“你要在犹大各城和耶路撒冷的街头宣告，呼吁百姓听从、遵行这约。

现在，倘若你们认真听从我的话，遵守我的约，就必在万民中做我的子民，因为普天下都是我的。

现在我决心要与以色列的上帝耶和华立约，好使祂的烈怒转离我们。

“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘我曾带领你们的祖先离开埃及，使他们不再受奴役，那时我与他们立约说，倘若你们的希伯来同胞卖身做你们的奴隶，服侍你们六年后，到第七年你们要给他们自由。你们的祖先却掩耳不听。不久前，你们回心转意，做我视为正的事，释放自己的同胞，并且在我的殿中立了约。然而，你们却反悔，各自抓回先前释放的奴隶，再次奴役他们，亵渎了我的名。

王站在自己的位置上，在耶和华面前立约，要全心全意地跟随耶和华，遵从祂的一切诫命、法度和律例，履行约书上的规定。

与祭司、先知、犹大人、耶路撒冷的居民等全体民众，不论贵贱，一同上到耶和华的殿。王把在殿中发现的约书念给他们听。王站在柱旁，在耶和华面前立约，要全心全意地跟随耶和华，遵从祂的一切诫命、法度和律例，履行约书上的规定。民众都答应守约。
