“你们从列国逃脱的人，要一同聚集前来。那些抬着雕刻的木偶、祈求不能救人之神明的，毫无知识。

你们去哀求你们所选择的神明；你们遭遇急难的时候，让它们救你们吧！”

我们定要照我们口中所说的一切话去做，向天后烧香，献浇酒祭，按着我们与我们祖先、君王、官长在犹大城镇和耶路撒冷街市上素常所做的一样；因为那时我们得以吃饱、享福乐，并未遇见灾祸。自从我们停止向天后烧香，献浇酒祭，我们倒缺乏这一切，又因刀剑饥荒灭绝。”妇女们说：“我们向天后烧香，献浇酒祭，做天后像的饼供奉它，向它献浇酒祭，难道我们的丈夫没有参与吗？”耶利米对这样回答他的男人和妇女说：“你们与你们祖先、君王、官长，以及这地的百姓，在犹大城镇和耶路撒冷街市上所烧的香，耶和华岂不记得，放在他心上吗？耶和华因你们所行的恶、所做可憎的事，不能再容忍，所以使你们的地荒凉，受惊骇诅咒，无人居住，正如今日一样。你们烧香，得罪耶和华，不听耶和华的话，不遵行他的律法、条例、法度，所以你们遭遇这灾祸，正如今日一样。”耶利米又对众百姓和妇女说：“所有在埃及地的犹大人哪，当听耶和华的话。万军之耶和华—以色列的神如此说：你们和你们的妻子口中说过、手里做到，说：‘我们定要向天后还愿，向它烧香，献浇酒祭。’现在你们尽管坚定所许的愿，去还愿吧！所有住埃及地的犹大人哪，当听耶和华的话。耶和华说：看哪，我指着我至大的名起誓，在埃及全地，我的名必不再被犹大任何人的口呼喊：‘我指着主—永生的耶和华起誓。’看哪，我看守他们，为要降祸不降福；在埃及地的犹大人必因刀剑、饥荒而灭亡，直到灭绝。
