荊棘對樹木說：「你們若忠誠地膏立了我作王來統治你們，那麼你們就要來、投靠於我的蔭影下；不然，就願火從荊棘裏發出、來燒滅利巴嫩的香柏樹。」

這樣，上帝報應了亞比米勒向他父親所行的壞事，因為他殺了他的弟兄七十個人；上帝也將示劍人一切壞事都報應在他們頭上；而耶路巴力的兒子約坦的咒詛也歸到他們身上。

詭詐之舌頭啊，要用甚麼去給你呢？要拿甚麼來加給你呢？就是勇士的利箭、同羅騰木的炭火！

三百人把三百枝號角吹了起來，永恆主使各人的刀在全營中互相擊殺；他們向西利拉逃到伯哈示他，直到亞伯米何拉河邊，靠近他巴。

你現出怒臉時，就使他們如炎熱的火爐；永恆主必用他的義怒吞滅他們；那火必把他們燒盡。你必從地上滅絕他們腹中的果子，從人類中滅絕他們的後裔。

上帝打發了惡靈來到亞比米勒和示劍公民中間，示劍公民就用詭詐待亞比米勒；

願上帝下炭火雨在他們身上；將他們丟落水坑，使他們不能再起。

眾人一開始歡呼頌讚的時候，永恆主就派伏兵擊殺那來攻打猶大人的亞捫人、摩押人和西珥山人；他們就被擊敗了。因為亞捫人和摩押人起來，擊殺了住西珥山的人，將他們殺滅歸神、而除滅掉：他們把西珥居民滅盡了之後，竟又彼此助長以相除滅。

勇士啊，你為甚麼以行壞事自誇，而攻擊上帝堅貞之士呢？行詭詐的人哪，你終日圖謀着毁滅；你的舌頭就像磨快的剃刀。你愛壞事，不愛善行，愛虛謊，不愛說對的話。（細拉）詭詐的舌頭啊，你愛一切吞喫人的話。上帝也必拆毁你到永久；他必將你攫去，將你從帳棚中扯走，將你從活人之地拔起根來。（細拉）

願你按他們的所作所為，按他們行為之邪惡、待他們；願你照他們的手所作的待他們；將他們該得的報應加給他們。
