荊棘對眾樹說：‘如果你們真誠地膏立我作王統治你們，就要來，投靠在我的蔭下；否則，火必從荊棘裡出來，吞滅黎巴嫩的香柏樹。’

這樣，神報應了亞比米勒向他父親所行的惡事，就是他殺了自己的兄弟七十個人。神也把示劍人的一切惡事，都報應在他們的頭上；耶路．巴力的兒子約坦的咒詛，也歸到他們身上。

詭詐的舌頭啊！他要給你甚麼呢？他要加給你甚麼呢？就是勇士的利箭，和羅騰木燒的炭火。

三百人吹那三百枝角的時候，耶和華使全營的人用刀互相擊殺，然後他們向著西利拉逃到伯．哈示他，直到靠近他巴的亞伯．米何拉河邊。

你出現的時候，就要使他們像熾熱的火爐；耶和華必在他的震怒中吞滅他們，火必燒滅他們。你必從地上除滅他們的子孫，從人間除滅他們的後裔。

神差派邪惡的靈來到亞比米勒與示劍人中間，示劍人就背棄了亞比米勒。

願炭火落在他們身上；願他們掉在深坑裡，不能再起來。

當他們開始歡呼讚美的時候，耶和華就派出伏兵，擊殺那前來攻打猶大人的亞捫人、摩押人和西珥山的人，他們就被擊潰了。原來亞捫人和摩押人起來攻擊住西珥山的人，把他們殺盡滅絕；他們滅盡了住西珥山的人以後，竟又自相殘殺。

勇士啊！你為甚麼以作惡自誇呢？神的慈愛是常存的。你圖謀毀滅，你的舌頭鋒利像剃刀，常弄詭詐。你喜愛作惡過於行善，喜愛撒謊過於說實話。（細拉）你喜愛你詭詐的舌頭，所說一切毀滅人的話。神必把你永遠拆毀；他必把你挪去，把你從帳棚中揪出來，把你從活人之地連根拔起。（細拉）

願你按著他們所作的，照著他們所行的惡報應他們；願你照著他們手所作的報應他們，把他們應得的報應加給他們。
