荊棘回答說，『倘若你們誠心立我為你們的王，就投靠在我的蔭下吧；不然，願火從荊棘中冒出來吞噬黎巴嫩的香柏樹。』

上帝就這樣使亞比米勒得到了報應，因為他殘殺了自己的七十個兄弟，也讓示劍人因自己的一切惡行而得到了報應。耶路·巴力的兒子約坦的咒詛臨到了他們。

詭詐之徒啊！你會受到怎樣的懲罰呢？你會有什麼下場呢？等待你的是勇士的利箭和炙熱的炭火。

基甸的三百人一起吹響號角時，耶和華使米甸人自相殘殺。他們逃往西利拉的伯·哈示他，一直逃到靠近他巴的亞伯·米何拉的邊境。

你一出現，他們便像身在火爐中，你在烈怒中吞滅他們，你的烈火燒滅他們。你必從世上剷除他們的子孫，從人間滅絕他們的後裔。

上帝派遣一個邪靈挑起亞比米勒和示劍人之間的爭端，示劍人用詭詐的手段對待亞比米勒。

願火炭落在他們身上，願他們被丟進火裡，被拋進深坑，不得翻身。

他們開始唱歌讚美的時候，耶和華就派伏兵擊殺前來攻打猶大的亞捫人、摩押人和來自西珥山的人，打敗了他們。原來亞捫人和摩押人攻擊來自西珥山的人，消滅了他們，然後亞捫人和摩押人又自相殘殺。

勇士啊，你為何以作惡為榮？上帝的慈愛永遠長存。你這詭詐的人啊，舌頭利如剃刀，盡是害人的奸計。你喜愛邪惡，不愛良善；你喜愛虛謊，不愛真理。（細拉）你有詭詐的舌頭，好說惡言惡語。上帝必永遠毀滅你，祂必抓住你，把你從家裡拉出來，從活人之地剷除。（細拉）

求你使他們罪有應得，按他們的惡行，按他們手上的罪惡報應他們。
