荆棘回答说，‘倘若你们诚心立我为你们的王，就投靠在我的荫下吧；不然，愿火从荆棘中冒出来吞噬黎巴嫩的香柏树。’

上帝就这样使亚比米勒得到了报应，因为他残杀了自己的七十个兄弟，也让示剑人因自己的一切恶行而得到了报应。耶路·巴力的儿子约坦的咒诅临到了他们。

诡诈之徒啊！你会受到怎样的惩罚呢？你会有什么下场呢？等待你的是勇士的利箭和炙热的炭火。

基甸的三百人一起吹响号角时，耶和华使米甸人自相残杀。他们逃往西利拉的伯·哈示他，一直逃到靠近他巴的亚伯·米何拉的边境。

你一出现，他们便像身在火炉中，你在烈怒中吞灭他们，你的烈火烧灭他们。你必从世上铲除他们的子孙，从人间灭绝他们的后裔。

上帝派遣一个邪灵挑起亚比米勒和示剑人之间的争端，示剑人用诡诈的手段对待亚比米勒。

愿火炭落在他们身上，愿他们被丢进火里，被抛进深坑，不得翻身。

他们开始唱歌赞美的时候，耶和华就派伏兵击杀前来攻打犹大的亚扪人、摩押人和来自西珥山的人，打败了他们。原来亚扪人和摩押人攻击来自西珥山的人，消灭了他们，然后亚扪人和摩押人又自相残杀。

勇士啊，你为何以作恶为荣？上帝的慈爱永远长存。你这诡诈的人啊，舌头利如剃刀，尽是害人的奸计。你喜爱邪恶，不爱良善；你喜爱虚谎，不爱真理。（细拉）你有诡诈的舌头，好说恶言恶语。上帝必永远毁灭你，祂必抓住你，把你从家里拉出来，从活人之地铲除。（细拉）

求你使他们罪有应得，按他们的恶行，按他们手上的罪恶报应他们。
