Abimelek son of Jerub-Baal went to his mother’s brothers in Shechem and said to them and to all his mother’s clan,

Abimelek was the son of Jerub- Baal. He went to his mother’s brothers in Shechem. He spoke to them and to all the members of his mother’s family group. He said,

Now Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem to his mother’s relatives and said to them and to the whole clan of his mother’s family,

One day Gideon’s son Abimelech went to Shechem to visit his uncles— his mother’s brothers. He said to them and to the rest of his mother’s family,

他的妾住在示劍、也給他生了一個兒子；基甸給他起名叫亞比米勒。

他們就說：『來吧，我們來設計謀害耶利米；因為祭司有禮節規矩，智慧人有謀略，神言人有話語，都不能斷絕掉。來吧，我們用口舌攻擊他，他的甚麼話、我們都別理它。』

以色列眾人聽見耶羅波安從埃及回來了，便打發人去請他到會眾面前，就立他作王管理以色列眾人：除了猶大族派以外、沒有跟從大衛家的。

這時以色列人就打發人去請他來——以色列全體大眾都來，對羅波安說：

以色列人凡去見王求判斷的、押沙龍都這樣待他們；這樣、押沙龍就竊奪了以色列的人心。

雅各從巴旦亞蘭回來的時候，平平安安地來到迦南地的示劍城，在城的東面支帳棚。

羅波安往示劍去；因為以色列眾人都到了示劍、要立他作王。

因為你的仇敵在喧嚷着呢；恨惡你的在昂首抬頭呢。他們設下狡猾陰謀、要害你的人民，他們彼此商議、要害你所寶藏的人。他們說：『來吧，我們將他們抹除，使他們不再成國；使以色列的名不再被記得。』

那地的族長希未人、哈抹的兒子示劍、看見她，就拉住她，和她同寢，玷辱了她。
